RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted March 18, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2018 I have, on occasions, been accused of being a complete aerosol. At least, I think that was the word used......
RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted March 24, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 24, 2018 Well we are nearly finished, just this bit of narrow road come yard to make from mount board, some supports for this are made from scraps of card . Most of this road will not be really seen, but it still needs to be made, as it will set the building back from the railway line. to represent the surface of the road the top paper layer of the mountboard has been randomly stripped off sometimes taking some of the card layers, this has then been given several light sprays of grey primer from a rattle can, and some pastel chalks rubbed in to give some depth, and a little bit of varnish to suggest a blocked drain. The last job to do is pay the builders off, clear the site and place Thorburn,Bain & Co. in it's new home by the railway. ( this will please Mrs W Station she might be able to see out of the window again). All the best Adrian.
manna
G'Day Folks Monster of a building, but so needed in a urban setting, always loved the look of trains in the canyons of the city (IE, Widened Lines) manna
RMweb Gold ChrisN Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2018 Adrian, I have lived in places with buildings like that, I mean the grotty, sooty, dirty type of building, before they got the spray guns out in the 70s and cleaned London up, and there are still some left, but you know what, I cannot place where that one is. I am sure I have seen it. Clever to try and make it look like a model though. Didn't fool me though, I know it is real.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted March 30, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 30, 2018 Before I settle Thorburn, Bain & Co into its position on Ewer Street, some pictures of it outside in the garden, taken when it wasn't raining, snowing or freezing blooming cold, I can't remember what half hour that was. I had a bit of a job getting the whole lot on in one picture, without standing in next doors garden. Next job is to place in its new home. All the best and Happy Easter to you all Adrian.

aberdare
Fantastic work Adrian. I just had to go back to the start of the thread to remind myself of where this all started, in a small countryside station before moving on to large industrial buildings, you have shown that you are a master of modelling by the two extremes you have captured so well. I also like the way you use everyday items that are easily overlooked and discarded. I have been an all to infrequent visitor to Westerham and will have to make more effort to correct that if I can. All the best Jim

RMweb Gold ChrisN Posted March 30, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 30, 2018 I see the building now has an aerial, very 60s! Went up to Waterloo this week and looked out for Thorburn's. Of course it is not there, it is in your garden! It will look amazing when it is on the layout.

RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted April 7, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 7, 2018 Some pictures of the Thorburn, Bain & Co Envelope factory in its new home. I just had to add a shelf for it to sit on, lower than the baseboard but high enough to clear the Westerham Brasted track which runs beneath it, and a bit of an extension in the width of the baseboard to hold the length of track, some retaining walls and bridges need to be built at the far end to represent the Metropolitan Junction. Thanks for following this build and all your comments. All the best Adrian. Edit: apologies the pictures are not displaying in the correct order.

jcredfer
Hi Adrian, May I ask if the houses, in the top picture [with the loco waiting for a straw for the water] are kits or another of your remarkable bits of shoe box? Kind regards Julian

Kind regards Julian Hi Julian, page 2, post 38 onwards shows the sale of the land, and subsequent efforts of Bodgit and Scarper Builders of no fixed abode a very limited company.
