Working lights on a Goods Brake Van

A second brake van with lamps at the veranda end. This has been a lot harder as there is so little space on the veranda to get my finger into to position the led. Its' not working yet because I need another flicker free unit.     I also need to touch up the damaged paint and weathering.

Photo update

As promised, I've finally got round to taking a few photos. Dogfish, Crab and Ling in glossy post transfer application but pre-weathering from Cambrian and Chivers kits. Also a pic of the Conflat Clay in the same state and one of the excellent High Level 03 kit. It's moved on since I took this and I've now done both step assemblies. A joy to build. Fiddly, yes but very rewarding.

Despite appearances to the contrary, there has been some progress on the layout in between stock building sessions. Today has seen the main section of the station building constructed based on the mockup Here (Old RMweb)   As an idea of scale the station building is around 26 inches long.     The front wall is made from three layers - the centre layer is mounting board with the window and door holes cut (fairly) exactly into it. Another wall goes on the first building

I know its hardly the most impressive blog entry but I put another wall on my first scratchbuilt building today. I did this one slightly different to the other 2 walls in that I added the supporting wall first and then added the outer shell wall and Quoins.           I added the front piece to the other 3 walls to see what it would look like. I will be cutting out the windows and doors on this in the next week or so. Once the windows and doors are stuck to the front I will then at

Warley - Drive or go by train?

Fingers crossed some where in the post is a ticket for this years show, but before I start getting flustered because it has not arrived I find myself with a greater conundrum, how to get there.   Living in Reading I can get a train direct to Birmingham International, and it takes about the same time as the drive by the time I have got to the station BUT, the ticket for the train is ??40, where as the petrol will cost me around ??20 plus i'm guessing around ??7 - ??10 for the car park.   The

A few years ago I spent some time on the Norfolk Broads. Not somewhere you might immediately associate with any modeling potential but one particular stretch of the River Waveny offered up a surprise in the form of Somerleyton & Reedham Swing bridges on the Norwich - Lowestoft line. Somerleyton in particular always stuck with me as a project and I've now decided to do something about it. Shown here is the bracing, including the 44mm X 44mm that goes down the length of the board on both sides. This has proved the most obstructive.     You can also just see the join in the board which is the main reason for all the structure underneath. Although the total size is 8 X 4, this is made four 4 X 2 sheets. I cannot get the 8 X 4 in the car.     Again just to emphasise the point.   You can also see the bus and PM1's in these photo's but more of those later.   Last photo is

Phase Three - An idea

I've had an idea:     The Nissen hut I would envisage as being something like this one: http://www.ingr.co.uk/images/gardrum%20news.jpg   This plan would also solve the problem of the sea join which is an added bonus. I would model the lifeboat station as no longer functional, however, I could add a slipway in front of it and making it operational. Just a question of taste I suppose.   By the way, the infilling is pretty much complete and the castle taking shape. Comments welcome as us

Getting bitten by the Irish bug...

And I'm not talking about a taste for Guiness...still prefer a good quality bitter, I'm afraid. Whilst researching the Irish Rail coaches for the ERG range, I'm really starting to see the appeal of the traction scene over the water and increasing numbers of my former "demo" coaches are now sporting Orange...so far three each of Mark 2d and 3.   I reallylike the look of the De Deitrich Enterprise stock, with the GM-style Driving trailer and the new IR mark 4 coaches with the platypus-esque DVT
