  1. Many it would seem....the headboard can be banging away on the adjoining wall for ages....😬
  2. We still do......I suspect the saddle is now worn...
  3. I remember asking my father what he thought about the RAF's efforts during the war when he was a PoW. He said the 1000 plane raids worried them as they were not that far from Hamburg and they would sometimes find the imprecise bombing getting a bit too close for comfort. He did say that when they heard of the Dams raid on their (many) hut radios, it created a boost to moral within the camp as it unsettled the German guards that a small raid could create such havoc.
  4. 31's were common on the KX to Peterborough trains and were known as 'Brians' (Brian the snail from the Magic Roundabout) due to their mind numbingly slow rate of acceleration.
  5. So much is incorrect in your post William the B'stard - he had a claim on the throne, claiming that Edward the confessor (first cousin?) had promised it to him rather than Harold Godwinson. Guy Fawkes - A conspirator to overthrow the Protestant King in favour of a Catholic Monarchy, He'd fought abroad in favour of the Catholic Church. Bonfire night is to celebrate the failure of the gunpowder plot. Dunkirk - Saving 400,000 men from imprisonment. King Arthur - Not even real, but a legend
  6. Both if possible, I want to use the driving wheels for a project. A mm or so adrift from what I'm after on either the wheels or wheelbase isn't a huge problem.
  7. Hopefully someone can help. I'm currently working out what is possible with the Hornby M7 but need a measurement for the wheelbase (mainly the drivers) if someone is able to answer the question could they also give the size for the Hornby wheels, I know they're 5'7" on the actual locomotive but wonder what dimension Hornby have used for the model. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the trouble to check.
  8. We were there in the late 90's and early 00's.
  9. Quite possibly as I was going from memory. I do remember there being a lot of animosity towards the mainland USA as they regarded themselves as 'Polynesian' rather than 'American' On Oahu there were a lot of shops owned by Japanese who would not serve American tourists, we were initially refused entry to one until I spoke Japanese to the owner (somewhat brokenly) as we had lived in Nagasaki when children.
  10. Off topic - Whilst watching the original at the cinema, there was a group of girls in the seats in front. In the scene where the Alien emerges from John Hurts stomach, one screamed and another was sick. .....the poster did say "no one hears you scream in space"
  11. Having been to the Hawaiian islands a couple of times It's quite obvious that they don't see themselves as Americans, a fair percentage have some real animosity towards the USA as they feel that the attack on Pearl Harbour gave the US an excuse to take full control of the islands and imprison a third of the population, who were Japanese.
  12. It'll come. I've been waiting for some other bits and pieces in the post which I know have been posted, 1 turned up yesterday after 7 days and the other is still awol after 8 days. Our local postie says the backlog is building after each strike day.
  13. Sounded like Dave Woodward in the background...
  14. I love the original film and the Empire strikes back, but none have been the same since watching the Family Guy versions.
  15. Good to meet up on Saturday. High prices. We had 2 regular hot chocolates and 2 medium (not much bigger than small) pork pies* and it came to just under £15. Sherrie was going to pick up a loaf of bread which is the same as in our village shop, but instead of £1.70 it was £3.80. Nothing to do with quality just outright profiteering from a captive market. The meat counter looked good, but again it was vastly overpriced, I realise it might not be fair to compare to the farms around us where it’s grass to plate in one swoop but it isn’t that much extra in Kelso but still 2/3rds what was being charged. * the pies were the only option as there were no sandwiches on offer, also cleanliness was somewhat of an issue in the ladies loo. There were several coaches parked so that might have been due to numbers. Back on topic, I split mine up like Frank to paint….. that’s when I actually get around to painting !
  16. We were heading South at midday Friday (Warley) and popped in for a drink and snack......Ouch! just about the most expensive stop we've ever made. I spent an amusing 20 minutes watching the Teslas queuing and jostling for position for the electrical hook ups.
  17. But if a Duh! Moment there confusing the 2. I’d forgotten 106 claim to fame was the last in green
  18. Isn’t 40106 still part of the National collection ? (I haven’t kept up with what the NRM have given away) if so wouldn’t that be a ‘Locomotion’ model ?
  19. I asked the bank to cancel the DD, they made an error and didn't and the payment was taken for this year. I was re-imbursed by Barclays along with £250. It renewed some time ago but the pop ups have only been recently.
  20. Unfortunately even Gold doesn't stop pop ups and non modelling related advertising. I've had this for several days, this evening this has popped up 6 times in 1 hour. Gold theme is selected, On a Mac with safari.
  21. I run a 3L turbodiesel Nissan cabstar 3.4T flatbed, it uses approx 1L per 1000+ miles. I thought this might be low so queried it when it had a repair at a Nissan dealership, they checked and confirmed there was nothing wrong with the system.
  22. Sadly Jan died at the end of October. I understand Alan will continue with the research they had accumulated.
