  1. When I first looked there were about 20. I didn't pick any up as I've still got 10 or so to build as well as other makes.
  2. That would explain the Pikey hanging off the back ......
  3. I'll no doubt be seen as negative again about the use of lofts but they are not in any way designed to be used for anything. They are the void between the ceiling and the underside of the roof and in new builds the free flow of air around the roof space should not be compromised, also the levels of insulation required for the ceiling preclude boarding any part of the space. The extremes of temperature will make the space unbearably hot in the summer and freezing in the winter and structurally the void is not designed to have an adult walking/moving around on it. Your best option is to find a property that can accommodate your wishes (or the best part of them) in the habitable space or to look at an insulated shed in the garden.
  4. Quite a bit of activity yesterday when we were in the garden getting jobs done, pairs of Long tail tits so they're probably breeding now. Red Kite just 30ft above us and also had a Wren with a megaphone.....at least it sounded like one.
  5. You are quite possibly correct as it is 37 years since my test, but the 2 individuals mentioned don't worry about things such as insurance or doing things correctly. Their attitude is "I have a license, I can ride anything". I would point out that they are not friends but people I have come into contact with through work.
  6. There seems to be a surfiet of kits at Hattons at present. http://www.hattons.co.uk/stocklist/3156002/1000588/1000636/0/Ian_Kirk_Kits_OO_Gauge_1_76_Scale_Coaches/prodlist.aspx They don't appear (in the pictures) to be full kits, but rather the sides only that were made up as stock that Ian Kirk alluded to earlier in the thread.
  7. But it just so is.....ammmmaaaaazzzzziiiinggg
  8. And yet in the mid 1800's the GN had 'Break' not 'Brake' vans.
  9. It is. At Sandy we had the Up going in 2 directions with the GN and Oxford - Cambridge.
  10. I know of 2 riders that passed their CBT and tests on 125's and rode for 2 months before the wet weather came, they then stopped riding for 6 months over Winter. When the good weather came, one purchased a Ninja and didn't make it beyond 2 weeks. I'd actually said at the time that having the key in his hand was probably the nearest he should get to the bike. It could be argued that they could have bought a powerful car and done the same thing, but the required skill level between a Porsche and a Ninja/R1/Hyabusa is worlds apart. Much as I'd like a bike again, I know that even a modest machine would carry too much risk especially when coupled to drivers that overtake on verges or blind you with high beam.
  11. The English language changes all the time, and should you be able to step back in time 100 or 200 years you would be looked at as though an alien. Of course if you wanted to step back 500 years you could adopt the language of Court which was French. innit...
  12. You haven't got Tippi Hedron locked up in the wardrobe by chance?
  13. Tyres filled with rammed earth is the new hippy eco building technique.......is that in Notting Hill ?
  14. Quality ply isn't a problem, I've got sheets, half sheets and offcuts in the workshop that lean against the wall as I haven't the space to lay them flat, and they exhibit no problems. The cheaper grades of ply have voids as well as mismatched layers which make it unstable. Some of this ply is actually cheaper than it was 10-15 years ago and really is a case of you get what you pay for.
  15. There you go, answered your own question.
  16. Giles, I rode a bike for many years after passing my test when 17, I did over 200,000+ miles on them until the carrying of tools became just too awkward. I look out for them and give them room but you have to admit that the first sunny day of the year brings out the fair weather riders with machines beyond their capabilities and instills in them a belief that they are somehow indestructable. Here is one from 2+ years ago. The first rider you see is Alan Huckle who I know from childhood, he is also the brother in law of my plasterer, less than a second after you see him on the video he is dead as he hit a telegraph pole, the road at that point is a 90 degree left blind bend on a rising road. This is the road and the point you see him on the video and the pole is dead ahead https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.1254373,-0.237434,3a,75y,92.52h,78.86t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEHwDotznElG5cNum9j5tqw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 His speed was 80+ possibly nearer 100 and he's just passed over a crossroads, The machine he was on was a Hyabusa. The sad thing is the bike which was following him and saw him crash and hit the pole did not stop for him or even call the Police and has never been traced.
  17. Weren't they just. The A1 is at the end of the road and is a continuous 50mph around the town, it has a large roundabout as well as numerous crossings hence the limit. Yet yesterday I actually wondered if there was some sort of road race on, as bike after bike could be heard accelerating hard away from the roundabout and shuffling through the gears. then to cap it all we had a run of them in the road (30mph) passing the house in excess of 60mph ( easy to calculate with the distance covered and the gear) None of these are youths but 30/40+ year olds bringing the bike out on the first sunny day of the year. You'd think they would know better.
  18. Wait and see, for what? Would this be for the carriage shed that went quiet with little explanation after the fundraing and earthworks ? Lets face it the SR can barely keep up with the deterioration of the running stock without any covered accommodation. And If it is possible to build something at Furzebrook this is not going to be accessible to the public, so quite where the T3 is going to go is going to be interesting. Herston is full with no spare space and a queue of locomotives planned for quite some time. I'm not quite sure how being on the CoM would make a difference, unless you can conjur up some more land and the cash to go with it as the intensive service means there is no spare money.
  19. True, the wrong choice of word. I was curious as to why "some S7 layouts" and not "Some layouts" for example, last editions Little Bytham which has some superb looking trackwork, but is somewhat bland at present with little weathering of ballast, which it certainly was for the time period modelled.
  20. I'd disagree with that, As I'm researching photo's from the late 1800's to early 1900's for my layout the general state and colour of the ballast is extremely uniform and manicured. Semley is a superb model and as yet unfinished, so to compare one photograph to the model and say it is a little too clean and then extrapolate that across P4 is a bit unfair to say the least. I say that as a devout OO modeller too.
  21. Money, and the future lack of it as the steam era preservationists pass away. The simple fact is that engineering and preservation will get more expensive but the pot from which the present funds come from will shrink.
