  1. As an update on this. I've called in a couple of times to see how the driver is but had no luck finding anyone in. I eventually spoke to his son this evening who was very grateful for me calling in as he still had no idea what had actually happened. His Father (the driver) was still a little confused and extremely sore but is generally ok. It seems the son had tried many times to stop his Father from driving without success and hopes this will finally stop him. It seems that after the ambulance took 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive after the 999 call things didn't improve. At 2pm they then took him off to Bedford A&E, when there they popped him in a wheelchair and left him in the A&E queue. Only when the son arrived at 4.30pm when the Police got hold of him, did they realise that he was still there. Turns out they had been calling him for an hour but as he has poor hearing he had no idea and they didn't bother checking if the old man facing the wall was the one they wanted. After treatment he was discharged that night. I had put his age at mid 70's but seems he's actually 86! As annoying as it is to lose a reliable truck, it's only metal. All my neighbour and I have been concerned about is the health of the driver as I'm sure when he set out that day, he didn't intend to end up in A&E. As for the various pillocks posting on a local Farcebook page, seems I wasn't far from the truth when I said the ones who didn't stop were heading off to post an "OMG guess what I just saw" post, I don't do FB but I've been shown a few coments where someone saw it but was "too busy" to stop and others have chipped in with ""I know, but I hope the drivers ok" ....F..em...useless waste of space.
  2. £10,000 Anything over has to be reported to the POCA (Police organised crime agency) Edit - I've had to once where someone wanted to purchase a house from with cash (£275,000) turned out to be a pensioner trying to avoid stamp duty.......muppet.
  3. When I was 10/11 years of age it was the P'way men based at Sandy who refered to them as "Turnouts"
  4. I'm in the same situation, Been using Vista which has worked for what I wanted to do up until a few months ago. Now it wants to update but can't/won't download (even if left on for days) and when it did update a few weeks ago it wiped the machine back to September 2010. Ended up wasting half a day getting it back up to date. Now it tells me there are updates but takes weeks to download them. Considering doing much the same with this machine and trying Linux on it and using it for the database and other society stuff I do. For the other machine I might shift to Apple. Still undecided. Much as I am cynical about online banking, it would be near impossible to run the business without it.
  5. You only have to ask why certain Birds of Prey are missing from huge areas of this country where "Country Sports" are practised. The evidence is that they are poisoned and shot by gamekeepers but prosecutions are difficult so they get away with it.
  6. A small duckling would figure size wise, never heard of them fishing though. There were some scare stories around various Chiltern towns when they were being re-introduced, of them preying on small dogs and children. Studies showed that they can't actually lift off with anything bigger than a very small rat. Although they have a large wingspan it seems they've evolved to soar on the wind rather than outright power for lifting. On the home front, yesterday was fledge day for Starlings and Blackbirds that have been in the woodshed and various eaves, loads of really bad airborne acrobatics and crash landings.
  7. The POINT is, you probably mean TURNOUTS...........
  8. Is available And has been for some time.
  9. I understood that the problems were with XP but according to this mornings news most systems affected have been Win 7 & 8.1(?) I had also presumed that they were infected via an email link that had been activated but again I was incorrect. As I'm on Vista 64 I've erected a barricade around the office wall and put silver foil over the windows, and I've sharpened some pencils as back up.
  10. That's quite feasible, although I would question why it's on the bank where it wouldn't be needed (unless to provide balance weight.
  11. There's a page for every day. Or the cows get "Dates".....
  12. You would be surprised at how small a section would be required for this, it isn't to take the whole weight but to stabilise any movement such as the arch "flattening" . I would doubt if it was installed for what would be a once in a century job such as repointing.
  13. In the Merc it's in the manual to stay in Drive but with your foot on the brake pedal, if you engage the parking brake it's best to press the brake pedal when you release it, so that you have control or it will run away. In the truck (ex) being a manual, I knocked it in neutral and pulled the handbrake on.
  14. I've no doubt my big brother was standing not far away spotting that, ....Mum was from Penryn and many happy weeks were spent in Penryn & Falmouth.
  15. I'm sure that when "Microsoft security section" make their regular morning and afternoon calls to the office, I'll be having stern words with them... Along with "BT Internet security" etc etc.
  16. I reminded of the comment of why some people buy flash cars or quote that "their's is bigger" when compensating for an "Appendage" Edit. I just checked and it's listed, described and insured as a drop side truck.
  17. I would just like to point out that I recently made some stock boxes for Richard and therefore claim all credit for the work on Sidmouth........
  18. My favourite in the local Tesco's is to look for the car parked miles from the entrance and then park next to it , When towing the digger, Truck and Trailer are 30+ feet long so I have been known to parked across several bays and then reverse up to the passenger door with the trailer. There was one instance when I returned to the truck that the car driver said "did you have to park so close to my passenger door" I replied"But I was here first".....he apologised and drove away. I would say I never park to block doors.
  19. Here's a question which is nothing to do with updates but those now using W10 migt be able to answer. I have and use Vista 64 (don't tell me it's no good, it's done everything I want it to. Docs, pics spreadsheets etc) I had a drawing programme on it which I had to remove a month ago as the lack of support from MS meant it stopped working/too many glitches, So now I've got to change to another platform. I have win 7 on a small laptop which is used for presentations which seems ok but I only use it occasionally. I've checked and this PC at 10 years old can't be upgraded so I have to invest in another. I've used and tried W10 on a couple of machines to see what it's like and don't seem to get on with it easily. I actually got quite frustrated with it and had it been my machine could easily have put a hammer through the screen. I know that with time I would get used to it but I wonder whether something that frustrates you so much would be a good choice. The alternative is Apple (Yes I know, there's Linux too) I realise there is a price differential but when I've specc'd a couple of options it's not that big and the cash isn't an issue. So the question to W10 users is having used it for a while if you had the cash/option would you change to ....say....Apple. I've not included Linux in this as I've no experience and frankly have no idea what people are on about when the promote it. I would say that I have 2 friends who use Apple machines and when I tried them, found them very simple to use and they have been reliable and trouble free for both.
  20. As they say in Narfolk....Bootiful.....
  21. You've obviously never been with a (ex) girlfriend buying makeup.
  22. Going by your age I'd say Patrick Hartnell. Tom Baker for me........
  23. I try to ignore some things but a reply did cheese me off and I bit. I did enjoy the thread and read some very interesting viewpoints, but sadly we'll never know whether Clive takes his glasses next time.
  24. Tony, I would easily take that but I actually have a set of kits for it so would prefer to make my own*, but I would say that you have undervalued it somewhat. The kits would go for something like £80 if they ever appear so I would be tempted to ask £120-150. * The kits were hand delivered to me by John Edgeson who used a priv to come up to Sandy for a day out. How was that for service!
  25. Switzerland is locally governed (Cantons) and that many decisions are made at a very local level. As an example we came across a story in some local press of towns folk voting on whether a young unmarried mother should receive any benefits. Some may like the idea of that, but it reminded me of "Parish Poor Relief" from the 1800's I remember the Harry Lime line "400 years of peace and what have the Swiss to show for it..........The Cuckoo Clock"
