  1. Would love 850 in SR Malachite (maybe as an NRM special)!
  2. Fantastic news. Been wanting a RTR SECR brake van for so long, though I did think it would be the 'Dancehall' and did not even know of this type (please forgive my ignorance). They look great! One question I do have about the livery of the SECR ones (931001 + 931002) though please. What will the roof colours be for each, (grey like the 10t covered vans 927001 + 927002 or white like 9270011)? Many thanks in advance if you are able to shed light. Si
  3. From someone who always thinks of the original livery when recalling HSTs, this very much reminds me more of the XPT I once took from Brisbane to Sydney!
  4. I had run mine on a simple flat oval on DC, just the NDM on it's own, for 30 mins in each direction. Having thought that it should by then be run in I thought to would see what the turn of speed would be like. No abnormal sounds, a fast lap then slowed rapidly to a standstill with smoke and burning smell. Disaster! Frustrating given I have a full 14-car set, tried the single NDM and thankfully that runs fine. So 'City of Derby' is heading back to Margate and hopefully Hornby can work some magic and send it back working as it should.
  5. Another disappointed customer! Got my 5 car set, ran the NDM in on it's own at moderate speed for half and hour in each direction on DC, all fine. Gave it a burst of speed and then it slowed and smoke billowed plus an unpleasant electrical odour. Gutted - will be going back whence it came, direct to Hornby. I am now however also concerned about the separate NDM I already have (got the full 14 cars). Already run in before Xmas but want to test too at full speed. It would appear this is happening a fair bit, a statement might be nice from Hornby. Hopefully a repair too. Best of luck at anyone else similarly affected!
  6. Either the P1 or A2 would be fantastic choices for new models!
  7. Yep - these are two everyday liveries Br Green + BR TOPS Blue domino headcode rather than special celebrities. As such they would have made up the bulk of locos in their day. Easy to add extras should an owner wish. Far harder to remove things like cantrail stripe or other adornments. Lets hope for further similar and useful run of the mill examples!
  8. Here is my take on how 10th Jan could unfold. What I think they could reasonably come up with: Cream topped Pullmans LMS Red & Gold Coronation Scots (they have history of doing these though never ran in UK) LNER Coronations + Beaver-Tail Classes 81-84 SR H16 SR L1 What I would like them to be imaginative with: Caledonian Cardean Caledonian Stock GWR Toplights LMS Big Bertha BR Class 01 / 06 BR Class 70 (original type) BR Class 74 BR Class 123 / 124 SECR Dancehall Brake Van I am sure all of those would sell and most folks would find one or more of the above interesting for them. I am not sure we'll see any of them anytime soon though! Compliments of the Season!
  9. Worked fine for me! Good to see a proactive engagement by a manufacturer. Has to be one of the best ways to gauge the market.
  10. I have a couple of these now courtesy of Cornwall. Question - did the SEA ever run without the hoods on?
  11. Just changed over the wheelset to the non-traction tyre variant on my NRM 737. Not too bad a task, main fiddle was getting the screws back into the wheels on each side, to secure the connecting rods. I found easiest way was to place the model on it's side and put the screw into the connecting rod. Then hold it in place with dedicated tool and use a fairly fine pair of tweezer to grip the connecting rod half way along it's length then offer up to the new wheels and tighten. Hope this helps as I had held off waiting for a YouTube demo (which never arrived), so decided to have a go myself!
  12. I know that Steve at Railtec Transfers (See the 'Smaller Suppliers' thread) is brilliant at making bespoke items. He has done unusual requests for me in the past (for example a "Filey Holiday Camp" DMU destination decal). I am sure he would engage with you to find a solution if you are struggling, though he may need to see your model in order to match exactly. Always found his service first rate, efficient/reliable/fast! Hope this helps!
  13. Latest edition of Model Rail (No. 294) has a feature on page 9 showing the approved artwork for the Class 11, all 15 livery versions. Page 109 states order book not yet open though, along with Class 48 / 97 [PWM] / 98 [VoR]. No mention of the Class 12 (though I appreciate this is further down the pipeline). I'll be ordering: Class 11 x 2 Class 12 x 2 Class 48 Class 97 just as soon as it is possible. My concern however remains that with very limited numbers of each of the shunter liveries folks including myself may miss out. One might hope that loyal subscribers would be prioritised by opening orders to them first off, though not holding my breath on that one. Eyes wide open, don't blink or you could mis them!
  14. That would be a great idea. Also some identical ones with alternate running number please Bachmann. I particularly like the sound of the Caboose!
  15. Somewhat disappointing that the loco is not able to cope with the 9 coaches they are supposed to be able to do so. I wonder about the feasibility of double heading? Would look spectacular but, is there facility for a coupling on the front bogie of the latest Coronation! Need to check when I can as I have 6220 & 6221 when I can get to them. Accept you should not need to resort to this - just an idea!
  16. Thank you for the update. I am so looking forward to this [the BR version]. Next step for me will be looking into speaker options and where to place them. Got a couple of options in mind for hard wiring though may also consider wi-fi too. I think that this will add a fantastic amount of interaction with almost limitless playability (real and fictional rail route announcements etc). and hopefully make the layout come to life with sound, certainly the station area. Looks like there is a 'Save' function too from the icons displayed which I can see being useful for creating something of a playlist of regular trains. I am sure someone clever could if not already an easy option, devise an entire working day timetable of announcements mimicking the 24-hour clock to be playable. Wondering what project you might come up with next Hawksey? Trying to think of other useful little sound projects for elsewhere on a layout and a system for making the right speakers play in the right places!
  17. Please forgive me if already covered: I think my black & silver liveried model is more of a silk finish than gloss. Actually prefer this as I think it will better match my other black and silver liveried locos, namely LMS 10000 + 10001 / 10201 / 26020 / 27000. There are a few more with same liveries) in the pipeline (pre-ordered), so should all eventually make a fascinating little cavalcade!
  18. Mine has arrived (whistles intact), phew. Lovely looking model though will see only very limited use given it's curve restrictions. I wonder how it will perform over points - will try when I can. TBH it was always likely to spend most of it's time in a line up at the layouts 'museum' - sure it will look content amongst other black and silver liveried beauties! Might also do a Gas Turbine line up at some point.
  19. Just picked up coaches from the initial train pack [R2819] - now on the look out for the expansion pack [R4381]! These really are beautiful coaches and when I think it is surprising that Hornby have not released any more for these heavyweight 12-wheelers in around a decade. Also as mentioned above, they only ever did the TK in said expansion set. I am sure they would be popular if re-released or indeed the never released (in hi-spec lit form) cream-topped Pullman liveried vehicles.
  20. Very happy with my Southern Olive Green one. No problem with colour variations, green application appears uniform in daylight and under daylight florescent lighting condition. Ran in on DC on rolling road. Fitted with Zimo MX617N and programmed with ECoS - all really good!
  21. Think I have managed to complete my full line up of BR Blue 'Peak' headcode variations . Left to right, Class 44 / 2x Class 45 / Class 46 / Class 45 Would love the oddball 44009 if tooling allowed for it, collectors club special anyone? Sure I once saw a photo of a Class 45 with clear round lenses fitted (Class 47 style), anyone familiar with that or any other different nose end arrangements?
  22. Looking for anyone who might wish to swap tender tops? I have a Late Crest (Agnes untouched) and am looking for an Early Emblem (Witherslack). Appreciated I could rebadge with transfers but this way would guarantee no removal marks.
  23. Original one ordered for me. It will stand out from the crowd (in that livery) on the 'weird & wonderful' row/siding. I have TCS decoder spare and reserved for it. Won't physically renumber it though it will be allocated a fictitious TOPS number on my database and decoded programmed as 3201!
  24. Ideally I would like to source a new tender wheel holder which I damaged slightly when fitting DCC-TTS for my East Asiatic Lines I have looked on the Hornby website and the service sheet is number 428 with the latest issue being April 2017. This shows the items as part number X9198. However when searching for this part number I get returns for A4 Live steam tender wheels! On investigation I found service sheet number 274 latest issue September 2004 does indeed show X9198 as tender wheels One would have thought all part numbers ought to be unique to avoid confusion! Not sure if I can get the part I want?
