Manchester to Preston Electrification

Recommended Posts

I was walking near Buckshaw Parkway station, and I noticed that a concrete mast base had appeared.

Is there progress elsewhere?

Picture shows the last remains of ROF Chorley station platform, and, on the far side of the pallisade fencing the concrete base.

Well, over a year later, we get a mast on the concrete bases.

My office is opposite the station, just on the other side of the wall; been watching progress with great interest. I know there is lots to do and its all very complex, but it does seem to take ages for thingS to happen! What's the current completion date?

Manchester - Preston December 2017,

Preston - Blackpool May 2018,

but don't be suprised if the former slips to join the latter. Although TPE Scottish are booked to switch to the Bolton route in December. Kev.

Another walk from work to the supermarket.

Well another year on we have catenary.

It is on the southbound line only.

In the station it is held up by straps rather than registration arms.

Will we see if an electric train appears before Christmas.

Not the middle bit!  Euxton to Buckshaw Parkway is on, and the triangle at the other end, Salford Cre - Salford Cen and down to Deansgate. A last minute block is on today as well to 'tidy up and snag'. With talk of more to come, so no means certain we will see an electric through Bolton this year! Kev.

Not seen anything official, but apparently Manchester - Preston went live at the weekend, fed from the WCML feeders. Test trains to start later in the week if all is well. Hurrah! Only two years late, but who's counting eh. :sungum:

So which kind soul will be taking pictures?

Pendo's at Lostock Junction and Bolton Trinity Street would be nice.

Or Pendo's at Horwich Parkway with the Macron in the background, or Pendos.....

Basically Pendolino's anywhere along the route!!!!!

Thanks,

John P

John, your surname isn't abbreviated from Pendolino, is it, by any chance?

Sticking a few London to Glasgow services via Manchester and Bolton would be a nice add on to the Virgin offering.

I take it using a Pendolino maximises draw on the OHLE and tests the signalling immunisation too?

Normal loading will be higher than a single 390, but in terms of a single train drawing current, the only thing bigger would be a pair of locomotives.

It will of course be a diversionary route for 390s too, so they'll have to be cleared at some point.

Is there a plan to put 390’s this route or is this just a virgin limelight stealing exercise ?

I’d have thought 319’s would have been more appropriate test material ?

It will at least be a diversionary route for Pendos, so using them makes sense.

Wednesdays testing doesn't appear to have happened, unless they ran to different timings, but these timings are now in the schedule for Thursday 13th and Friday 14th.
