If my memory is right, I think the first loco hauled Mk3s entered service a few months before the WR HST sets, which would make it early 1976.

There were a few locos still displaying headcodes then, despite the instruction to change to 0000.

(Sorry, this was a reply to Titan post 122; which i forgot to paste.)

85101 at the back of Crewe station

Many thanks for posting this view.  The avoiding lines at Crewe were not photographed as much as the main station. I can remember being a small lad trying to look over the wall on Nantwich Road, down onto the avoiding lines trying to watch the freight trains going by.

This thread is starting to cost me money now, just visited my local model shop and found E3095 lurking on their shelves. Well it would have been rude just to leave it there. I ve arrived home to find a photo of the very same beastie has been posted on here.

How strange is that?

Thank you Robert for posting it

May 1975.

The first two sets took over the ex Liverpool Pullman diagrams upon the timetable change when the latter train was withdrawn.

Thank you again Robert, this thread has become almost an hourly read, so many great photos .However I must confess that even though l was on the footplate in the Banger Blue era, my favourites are from the Electric blue period. The locos looked so much smarter

Stop it please... My keyboard simply cannot cope with any more dribble...!

This is simply the best thread on RMweb, thanks so much to all the contributors. I need to get my scanner working as I have some shots from Ipswich lurking somewhere that will fit in.
