There were a few locos still displaying headcodes then, despite the instruction to change to 0000. (Sorry, this was a reply to Titan post 122; which i forgot to paste.) The avoiding lines at Crewe were not photographed as much as the main station. I can remember being a small lad trying to look over the wall on Nantwich Road, down onto the avoiding lines trying to watch the freight trains going by.
