From the 1972 Sectional Appendix:

Electric Lamps in Gas Works Tunnel................situated at intervals of 25 yards...........

Electric lamps in Hotel Curve Tunnel................situated at intervals of approximately 10 yards.......

The photo in this link,

https://flic.kr/p/2327iEq

seems to show a light on in Hotel Curve Tunnel. If you look at it in very high resolution, you can see the catch point at the end of the platform and the check rails to stop a derailed train contacting the tunnel wall.

Thanks for the info Andy. The fact I have a Flickr account, and possibly that Flickr is in the process of being taken over, may account for my first link not working for some peaple. Glad the second one works though, because the album has some cracking shots on it in very high resolution as well.

Late traffic notice for a special to cater for Leeds fans travelling to see their side play Arsenal  in the FA cup semi final replay.

That's our story for the record.

To add to the information on the signalling at Kings Cross here are some pages from the 1971 route learning book. Unfortunately they do not show the Down signals from the platforms to Gas Works Tunnel.

The track plan is the revised one from the late forties until 1977.

EDIT: just after I posted to say it still didn't work, the original link suddenly worked fine when I tried it again.

Just resurrecting this thread as I found an interesting video  only recently uploaded to Youtube

A chap walking the York road to Met tunnel showing the Western tunnel entrance,  as well as walking the section into KX Thameslink showing the Hotel curve tunnel entrance.  Although he panned the camera around, I couldn't see any remains in the lining brickwork that would have shown where the Western tunnel crossed over the Widened lines.

Thanks for the link Chris. Interesting video. As he says he's not sure of the history. It would appear that he walked the full length of the York Road to widened lines tunnel.  Part wY down he saw the entrance to the hotel curve that lead to the widened lines. Then on his way back from St Pancras he sW the western end of the hotel curve that was full of location cabinets, then just west of the old Kings X Thameslink station he videoed the ntrance to the tunnel that came up by the suburban platforms at Kings X. The diamond crossing of that tunnel and the Hotel curve wasn't on hus video and I don't think he walked any of the actual Hotel curve. However a very interesting video.

I don't think any of Hotel Curve is now accessible as it is blocked top and bottom, I think it was used to divert a sewer.

Thanks Chris.  The map makes sense of it. I had mistakenley called the Maiden Lane curve , the Hotel curve. I have heard the Maiden Lane curve callec a very expensive cable duct.  However from the pictures it looked as if the Hotel curve had been blocked off.

Resurrecting this topic, have just read in the December 1969 R.O.:

"The regular service over the Metropolitan Widened Lines to the Southern Region was withdrawn on and from Monday 24th March, the last train being an Eastern Region parcels train from Holloway to London Bridge and back, late on Sunday evening 23rd March. (There was a service every day). The ER freight service and the LM service ceased some time previously."

This came up on my YouTube feed today.

A walk through the tunnels from York Rd. station to Moorgate, by an authorised contractor.

Haven't had time to watch it all yet but around 2:35, the N-W Maiden Lane Curve tunnel mouth can be seen.
