RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted April 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2019 Those black and white pics and the videos are saddle tank heaven. Very atmospheric mate. If you find that you need to put more weight back in the Dapol J94 I have found that BB gun pellets can be stuck in all the small crevices such as the bunker and underneath! Also a white metal crew can help. Regards Shaun

Thanks Shaun, 68068 has a white metal crew, and it definitely doesn't feel as light as I thought it might with the weight removed, so the decoder, capacitor etc must help. The running plate is metal though, so that's extra weight as well. The DJM one still feels lighter, and I might try fitting a bit of lead in there somewhere. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 22, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2019 How do you fancy replicating this, have you got enough brake vans? Also, any plans for the Derby shedded 03 to appear? Mike.
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted April 22, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2019 (edited) That's great Mike, thank you for posting it. I can certainly do a rail-tour or two, but I've only got three brakevans at the moment, the BR standard which you've seen and two Midland pattern unfitted ones. The reason I bought the second unpowered Dapol (68006) was to replicate this sort of double-headed running. Al. I'm sorry Mike, I completely missed this question. Yes, I have a representative of the class 03: Unfortunately it's a Bachmann split-chassis version, and I've not yet been brave enough to try and convert it to DCC, so for now it doesn't get to play. Cheers, Al.

Cheers, Al. Not an easy conversion in a tiny tot like that Al, good luck if you try. If it were me, I would cut my losses and look for a later one, as I'm sure there not split chassis anymore, and are DCC Ready.

I think you're probably right Andy, it's a shame though, as it's a nicely weathered little loco and was a gift from a friend and fellow modeller on here. Al. RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted April 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm sure I've seen instructions for chipping the split-frame model 03, and it looked not too difficult; fiddly may be the word. The conversion involved lining the hollow for the motor with insulating tape, and cutting a small groove on one of the chassis castings to clear a wire. Here are links to other ways to do it: https://clarahost.clara.net/www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/mainline03dccinstr.htm http://service.Bachmann.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/DCC_OO_part2.pdf Hope it's of help.
