You just can't get the staff nowadays

Well no, it’s operated as one engine in steam.

Just the ticket... ...but I acknowledge that it’s just a token attempt at humour.

The wallage continues.

Oh, and by the way, this is MY wall, ok, so if you see a pointy-nosed italian called Hadrian, tell 'im to keep his thieving hands off. Who does he think he is, anyway, bloody Emperor or something?

Thanks for looking,

Al.

I gave that a 'like' as I felt the thumbs up was appropriate........as opposed to a thumbs down which can only lead to one thing.............

Thanks Derek, coming over here, building walls, I mean, what have the Romans ever done for us, hey?

Hi Al, lovely job of wallage, all coming together nicely. All the best Hadrian.

Thanks guys, it's turned out quite well, that.

It's been bugging me for a while so I'm glad to get that bit looking finished now. It is surprising how just a bit of wall can make such a difference.

Cheers,

Al.

Hi John, thanks very much for your comments.

Yes I agree it all looks a bit too clean and clinical at the moment, there's definitely scope for some more vegetation in the wall, and some undergrowth on the field side.

Watch this space... :)

Impressed by what you have done, really shows the flavor of the area.  One thing missing and that is the plants/weeds growing from between the stones . Over to you.

Give him a chance - the paint has only just dried! ;)

Blimey Andy, I'm not as fast as you!

Here you go then...

Hmm, doesn't show up as well as I'd hoped.

I've added patches of sand colour and green to represent lichen, and added some blended turf between some of the stones, as well as the more obvious undergrowth.

I'll see what it looks like with better light tomorrow.

To finish off that back corner, I thought I'd make some random farm stuff, such as you normally see decorating odd fields.

So I started with some 20thou styrene, and hacked it about a bit:

and eventually produced this, which was going to be a Land Rover bulkhead. However it turned out a bit big, so maybe it's a lorry bulkhead instead.

Then I built a plough out of styrene strip:

ladmanlow751.jpg.bc6e65974c6dd4b6adf2b155e95296d8.jpg

Here they are together:

Then I added a sheet of corrugated iron, well it's as much a cliché as the bus-on-the-bridge, isn't it?

As usual, the lights here don't show the true colours, so here they are on the layout:

We will see what it all looks like in daylight in the morning.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Hi Al, is that a series landrover top and bottom bulkhead that you have made, if it is put it on ebay you will get good money for it. some nice ideas and construction and fits in well. All the best Adrian.

Hi mate. It's meant to be a Series 1 bulkhead, I was thinking it's unlikely there would be a later one all rusty in the 1960s, so it doesn't have the raked back top section for the air vents like the later ones have. Given its condition, I'm not sure it would fetch much!

Old Tyres Al, you need some old wheels and tyres mate.

Excellent bits though buddy.:good:

I know Andy, that's what I was thinking, but I haven't got any. I think scratch-building 4mm wheels and tyres is beyond me.

I have got some oil drums and pallets, so I might add some of those.

Cheers all of you,

Al.

Plastic tube, scored around the outside, then chopped into slivers and painted dark grey, might represent tyres.

I think you need lots of long grass & weeds around the hut & abandoned clutter, which help disguise the tyres as well.

Right then!

With friends like you two, how can I refuse... :D

So I raided the styrene stash, and came out with a load of concentric sizes of plastruct tube, and some 10thou x 20thou microstrip:

ladmanlow763.jpg.6ed319ea392ee10c07c4ac9f8da04e9f.jpg

I cut a short section of the largest tube, 6.4mm external diameter, just to make it manageable, and then cut some short sections of the microstrip and attached them to the tube:

ladmanlow764.jpg.a37a522057fc136cad149c4b256f46f3.jpg

I then waited for the MEK to evaporate and set, and then teased the strip round the tube one piece at a time, slowly intruducing more MEK to get it to lie flat:

ladmanlow766.jpg.2d4d351c8d9a6e326bfcbdc4764bc25f.jpg

Until the strip joined up:

ladmanlow765.jpg.3f964a9d5ab497a4c96d66d7dcbfbadc.jpg

I then cut the tube off square just beyond the second strip. I forgot to photo that bit... :(

I did that twice, then thought of a different way to get a larger tyre.

I took a small section of 20thou x 80thou evergreen strip, curved it by pulling it over a paintbrush handle a few times, and glued it to the tube at one end, flush with the tube:

ladmanlow767.jpg.5b0226cab9485dabd3565018fcf802bc.jpg

Again, I waited for the MEK to dry, and then added some more further along and wrapped the strip round a bit further.

I have learnt to do this, because the strip has a tendancy to split or break if you are too heavy-handed with the MEK or try to do too much at once:

ladmanlow768.jpg.0abe4cea646d3aed413931e5bf9bd9a2.jpg

Anyway, I eventually got it to wrap right round and join up:

ladmanlow769.jpg.f880d80f825814c7b6d9af5e3899b449.jpg

Next, I took the 10thou x 20thou microstrip and cut loads of tiny offcuts:

ladmanlow770.jpg.4c8fe51ea30a118c1532a5280ae1b950.jpg

These were then painstakingly stuck all round the circumference of the trye:

ladmanlow771.jpg.f4289bf21a82fb8c76232dd833da2875.jpg

ladmanlow772.jpg.c5292edb3dce0b9418df130ed1441bf0.jpg

When they had well and truly set, I filed round the outer edges to make them less ragged.

I did this twice as well, and filled in the "wheel" on each pair by cutting matching lengths of 4.8mm and 3.2mm styrene tube and fitting them inside the 6.4mm tube on one of each pair:

ladmanlow773.jpg.e60e13d9eace19afc68912d0d064c0c8.jpg

These are now painted and are drying, I will show some more photos when they are done.

Thanks for the challenge guys,

Al.
