The tank is from a Slaters' kit, pretty much stock so far, although I'm going to add some extras. Al.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted November 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 23, 2019 If you remember back to the previous page, I had started making various bits of lattice work, like this: Well this evening I continued with that, completing the large lattice, and then making a smaller "V" girder effect: With these finished, I then chopped them up into carefully calculated lengths... And then stuck them back together again: A bit more to do: Here's a mock-up of what I'm aiming for: This will go here, supporting pipework between the hopper and the storage tank: Here it is stuck together and painted: And in position again: I will add the pipework later. Thanks for looking, Al. 13
RMweb Premium Bogie Posted November 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2019 Pipework. What the hell is that? I thought you were going to add pipery. 1
Ruston
That pipe bridge looks the part. So many people just use those ready-made plastruct pieces, which never look quite right. The time and trouble you've taken to make that has paid off. 1 4 1

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2019 Thanks very much all of you for your encouragement. This evening, I've added the pipework pipage pipery... A cast iron pipe, with asbestos insulation, I think: and in position: Thanks for looking, Al. 8
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2019 I've tried to formalise the junction of the pipe and the hopper and provide support for the pipe bridge: It will look better when it's weathered. RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2019 This evening, I've started a rockery: Adding various sizes of limestone, from chippings to dust, in a heap at the bottom of the quarry faces. I must remember to paint and detail the quarry though, a job for this week, maybe. Also, in gardening related news, I've got fed up of the glaring white expanse of the insulation foam on the top, so I've covered it in grass. Much more pleasing to the eye - and almost Dover-esque in its contrast! It also provides a more interesting setting to take photos of the buildings: Thanks for looking, Al. 11
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted November 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2019 Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly when you've finished applying the asbestos! From personal experience of pipework in/on pipe bridges, there would generally have been some bracketry (real word, yay!) of some sort to hold the pipe steady against vibration/slippage. Tortuga
Your modelling is an inspiration! That warren truss / latticework looks so much more delicate than commercial offerings and both this layout and Ladmanlow Sidings show what is possible with plasticard, micro strip and patience. 3

RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted November 27, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 27, 2019 Last night and this evening, I did some more welding: A bit more lattice work, and some supporting trusses: which together make this: and joins up like this: So, when painted, we get this: Or, in somewhere with proper lighting, this: Thanks for looking, Al. 10
