woodenhead
Been watching the two ex EMT units arriving back at Crewe the past two days - when do they intend to relivery them?
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 4, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2021 I believe there are a few LSL Mk3 at Eastleigh - so could be destined for this service. 43083 is also there. No doubt there'll be a suitable launch for the "new" train.
RMweb Gold Stuart A Posted March 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2021 Wonder if the livery is designed to be sympathetic to the surroundings it runs in, i.e. the Yorkshire Dales?

"LSL Mk3 at Eastleigh" rang a few alarm bells, until I remembered that LSL in this context means Locomotive Services Ltd and not Long Swing Link bogies which are a no-no in 3rd rail territory. The green livery, while not the same, reminds me of FGW's "fag packet" HSTs.

Funnily enough, there is actually an LSL but non LSL owned Mk3 sat in Eastleigh TMD at the moment - one of the former Anglian Mk3s originally intended for use with Chiltern is an LSL bogied Mk3 and wasn't picked up until it's arrival. I believe that explains in part explains why that rake hasn't left yet for further storage yet. Oops!

RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted March 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) Whilst not aimed at enthusiasts, I wonder what % of sales went to enthusiasts, especially when the DRS 37, 20 and 40 turned up on it last year. I don't really care what the stock looks like, indeed I thought a specialist rake is exactly what it needs, but I couldn't help but be attracted by the haulage last year. HST is a bit, er ok.. I was hoping for an Intercity Swallow set at least. last years operation needed 7 locos, 20107, 37407, 37521, 37667, 40145, 47593, 47712 so hope 3 power cars is enough. RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 3, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 3, 2021 Possible use of a loco-hauled set on w/c 14/08. Due to a scheduled exam for the HST set is the likely reason. Much frothing will ensue by the bashers...... 1

Talltim
Fag packets are all dark grey with a horrible picture on nowadays! Wonder why the yellow front goes around the bottom corners of the windscreen? Edited July 12, 2021 by Talltim

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted July 12, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2021 Due a test run over the Settle-Carlisle on Thursday 15th. Crewe-Settle as 5Z80 and then a 1Z80/1Z81 return via Carlisle. Then 5Z81 ECS Settle-Crewe as 5Z81 A jolly outing for the great and the good in S&C land? 2 hours ago, Talltim said: Fag packets are all dark grey with a horrible picture on nowadays! Or why the orange line droops down across the cab dome? Having seen it with my own eyes, I'd have to say it isn't the most inspiring new livery, considering the blank canvas they had to work with and result with the Blue Pullman HST. The Virgin/LNER had some nice styling clues but this just looks like someone won having a go in a fixed competition. It's as drab as the current GWR, when it ought to be conveying an image to give thoughts of sunshine or grandeur. Personally I'd like to see a set in an orange and silver-based historic livery, such as Southern Pacific Daylight or Milwaukee Hiawatha, but then again I don't own a HST...
stewartingram
What a lovely sensible livery for a change! Complimentary colours, following body lines, not garish at all. The yellow panel, which I must admit started back in the early 60s as an 'afterthought' (though often neatly applied), morphed into that awful 'dipped in custard' look of the rail blue era - horrible. In this case it is reasonably restrained, following the bodylines again. The orange stripe comes down to a neat position, if carried straight across that would look out of place. An elegant livery that stands out - well done. Stewart
Ben B
I quite like it, and will be interested to see how it looks in the flesh (in the metal?) as I have a day off on thurs, might head up to Settle to take a look. Personally though, I think lined-black power cars and midland red (or blood'n'custard) coaches might have looked nice
RMweb Premium Legend Posted July 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2021 I think it looks pretty stylish, a quality product , which is no doubt what they are trying to convey . Better than some explosions in paint factories we’ve seen recently . Still can’t figure out the pattern on Avanti West Coast , for instance
dagrizz
Not being savvy to finding out the timings of this train over the S&C, can anyone help me with the approx times the train might pass Ribblehead in each direction? Thanks Graham
