RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple hare, A good nights sleep of around 6 hours in several large pieces. I've arrived at work without my pass, for some reason it doesn't like stay in the pocket of these trousers.. so it could be any wher in the house or garden. A search will ensue when I get home. As for today I followed someone else in the pass is also adoor key. I'll hide in my corner of the temporary lab and hopefully no one in officialdom will come asking to see passes (they do occasionally). During my computing hour last night I had waves of what am I doing... what's the point of it all.. I'm still getting that now.. not normal for me.. I managed to get one of the two major systems due next week, yesterday late in my working afternoon. Some work has been done, and I left the automatic bit of it running last night.. Today is the last day of the easy drives home, tomorrow Norfolk Schools start, and as I pass several on the way home the journey will be extended. Especially as the Parentwombles new to the schools clog up the streets with their cars.. As I am in email communitaction with my sailiing companion, I'm going to rig the mast and boom he gave me onto the boat, and take a photo on saturday to send to him.. Not much excitement I know, but he'll be going crazy looking at bare hospital walls.. Time to check the company spam I suppose than wander down to the lab, Sometime this week I believe the ceiling men are back to put in the tiles. But first... Time to check the company spam.. 6 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Many thoughts here for Sandy and John. A bit dull and dismal at the moment. There may be one or two sunny spells later, or not, depending on what the weather gods decree. Aching all over at the moment, not only The Knee but also in the neck and shoulder area and hands. I think Mr. A.R. Thritis is causing a few problems. I often wake a couple of times in the night with 3 of my fingers locked in a bent position and one in particular has be pulled open again. I need to start comparing car insurance suppliers in the next couple of days. The current bunch of crooks have advised me of my new premium which is about 25% more than last year! Looks like I'll be going elsewhere because I doubt that they'll reduce that much when I talk to them. First task today is to take The Boss to a little shop she likes so she can buy various birthday and other greetings cards for the rest of the year. While we're there I better buy her a birthday card as that event is fast approaching. She will pretend that she can't see what I'm doing but I know she'll be peeping out the corner of her eye. Just been reminded that I'm supposed to visited the dump with the old garden furniture as well today so I need to cut up the old table as it won't fit in the car. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 Morning all from a sunny Charente. Obviously thoughts are with John and Sandy. Off shortly to the trainspotting branch of Leclerc's then to see our very pleasant quack for mt 3 monthly visit and prescription. Apparently this afternoon I'm off to order a new base unit and sink for the utility room. This will be so that I can do some remodelling to allow a slimline dishwasher to be fitted. Not a lot else to report. Regards to all. Jamie

Popular Post BlackRat
High school groups.......I played drums in probably the greatest undiscovered 6 th form band of all time....... Plus Sport (geddit??). Played a few gigs, even had some button badges made up......the first lot the plus was meant to be an addition sign but the badge maker made them look like crucifixes.....a Christian rock band we were not! A youth club gig that friday erupted as th school Christian fellowship group battled with the school punk brigade. Summonsed by the head of 6th Monday morning I was told in in no uncertain terms that due to my antics and increasingly ongoing bad behaviour I was the 6th former most likely to do time! Ironic really. As for concerts......had a choice of ABBA with a rather hot girl who gave me a most unusual and delightful 18th birthday present or Dexys Midnight Runners with allegedly 'kooool' mates. Mates won, and Dexys were, well they weren't even sh@te! Fancy now being able to say you saw probably the biggest group the worlds ever seen in a relatively small venue! Thoughts to John and Sandy, probably doesn't mean that much, but we certainly are thinking of you both. RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 (edited) Morning All First off, supportive thoughts and wishes are just about all I can offer to John and Sandy - take each day as it comes seems to be a bit trite in the circumstances, but it is meant most sincerely. Belated happy birthday to Tony. 30747's boss's husband has had surgery and chemo for a rare bowel cancer, which was thought to be contained, only to find that he also has some small tumours at the base of his spine, and is now having radiotherapy pending a full diagnosis - cancer really is a nasty b$stard of a disease. Generic greetings are, of course on offer to all ERs who are ailing or celebrating. Not a lot happening here, apart from awaiting a call from EON's Smart meter engineer who is coming today between 8 and 4 to fit smart meters - I have been resisting this for some time, as I have read so many scare stories about them, but they keep on at me, and I know that a smart meter will not be possible here, due to the location of the gas meter, but they won't accept this, so I will let them come, and decide for themselves, and then perhaps once they have the info on file, they might leave us alone. Another gas man tomorrow as the cooker needs attention. Back tomorrow - probably. RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 Rang up the ophthalmic dept at Shrewsbury hospital yesterday morning and discussed my symptoms and what i thought was wrong with a very helpful staff nurse. Told not to go to A&E, as it would just be a long wait followed by a referral to the eye clinic which would then mean another long wait. We agreed that sitting at home would be more comfortable than luxuriating on hard plastic chairs. She then arranged for an appointment, late afternoon, to see one of the consultants. I was in to see the man just after the allotted time and my self diagnosis of a corneal ulcer was proved correct. I suppose once you've had one, you get to know the feelings generated by such quite well. They are not something you tend to forget. Antibiotics and an extra slippery eye lubricant were prescribed, with a follow up appointment for Thursday afternoon. As usual and as I have mentioned on these pages before, full marks to the Ophthalmic Dept at Shrewsbury. Of course, reduced eye movement and doing nothing too strenuous helps, so I shall retire to the muddy hollow, close my eyes and do very little whilst being waited on hand and foot by the Obergrumpenfuhrer. The question is, how long can I spin this luxury out out before she cottons on that I can move around and perform light duties? 5
Popular Post AndrewC
Morning all from the boring borough. Crabtree is off visiting Yvette today. After 15 years we've decided to cancel our CAMRA memberships. Little point in them anymore. £31 available for a few pints now instead of the vouchers that only seem to be accepted at 'spoons or Marston's pubs. Neverspoons, and the nearest Marston is in the schitty end of Belvedere. That's a hard pass. Little of note otherwise. Enjoy the day. Thoughts with John & Sandy. 19
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 3, 2019 Good morning everyone The sun is shining, with just a few clouds in the sky. I’ll shortly be heading out to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, I’ll drop Sheila off outside the hairdressers on my way. After that there’s not a lot happening, possibly a bit more work in the cellar. Thoughts with John and Sandy Back later 17

Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, firstly conveyed to Sandy and John, sadly a few close to me had been in a similar condition, there are no words, I'm not really into prayers, but my thoughts are with you at this time. More strength to both of you. We have a rather grey day today, but it's dry and the winds dropped, went out yesterday evening to pick some brambles and seem to have been bitten by a tick, so will have to keep an eye on that. Grandprix round a supermarket or two required for something tasty to go with the home grown veg and possibly something wet to wash it down. I put myself on a diet of no whisky during the months when there's no "R" in them, give my liver a holiday, so the malt is now back on the menu. Possibly a trip to the tip and even some more muddling could be on the cards, it's down to the fine details now and still dithering over whether an A4 or an A1 is the required purchase, both with sound attached...………...Have a nice dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 3, 2019 Thoughts with John and Sandy. A tiny bit of work from home before travelling to a well known purveyor of brown boxes that used to be wrapped in paper and string. (It is easier to travel there from home rather than work). Then it should be back to work for the afternoon - depending upon how long the task takes. The M6/M62 beckons. Have a good day folks. The Lurker
Greetings from a grey but dry LBG. Thoughts are with John and Sandy. Its back to school day for the Lurker boys - Mrs Lurker went back yesterday - so a bit of doom and gloom ensued. It's Elder Lurker's last year at school now. It seems strange to think that when I started working here, he hadn't started school.... have a good day all 11 1

Popular Post Ian Abel
Our thoughts go out to John and Sandy... Happy belated birthday Tony - hope you're amused by the left-side of the pond craziness then again, hope you can avoid it Morning all. The end of a three day weekend here, and the semi-official end of summer, as most folks consider it a downward spiral after Labor Day. Julie had a very good (all relative of course) three days - and we managed several small tasks and accomplishments that wouldn't have been possible just a week ago. At the suggestion of her doctor, after the Saturday appointment, we had our travelling companions over for diner, that helped a lot to start having the Mrs feel the new place is more like home. Jemma is home for two weeks studying, apparently they don't want to pay these folks to stay in a hotel while they read through all the training material !( Quelle surprise!) She had planned to stay with the Mrs, as needed, while I'm here in NY for the week. The Mrs actually had forgotten that was the plan, and felt she would do OK on her own. Since this detail wasn't identified until after Jemma and Whitney came over yesterday, they decided she'd stay anyway - significant improvement right there... Late flight into JFK last night, on time, but nonetheless not into the hotel until after 1AM <yawn> 17 driving in, expecting 26 and partly sunny later. Miss the daily banter here and hoping to get back to daily reading/posting, being on Long Island will help that, at least this week -> tally ho. 18 1
lightengine
I am not sure how Julie Walters held it together last night on her Coastal Railway tv programme. The woman showing her around Edinburgh station and the secret passage from the station to the station hotel, said " I'll show you the secret passage, it's at the back, I'll take you up there now." Titter ye not!
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 3, 2019 10 hours ago, chrisf said: Good morning one and all I’m an idiot - hardly headline news, I know. When Bill and I were discussing our imminent trip to Prague he said quite rightly that it would be a good idea to get some Czech currency. Somehow I confused crowns with pounds when I was in the bank placing the order. Let’s just say that I need to order some more. My no fees overseas Barclaycard may well get me out of trouble, as it did when I was working with four different types of dollar earlier in the year. When I was in the bank I noticed a placard proclaiming altered hours of service from next month. If I have understood this correctly – always a big if in my case – there will be times when the bank is open but without counter service. I don’t think much of that, given the outstanding unreliability of their self-service tills. I tried a comparable device in Tesco Metro yesterday. The idea was that I would pay for a four-pint canister of milk with a £10 note. It took two members of staff and a good ten minutes to sort out the chaos. Where are the savings in that? I have not written about music for a while. It is opportune, then, that the new Jim Moray CD, “The Outlander”, came yesterday, slightly ahead of release day. It by-passes the purdah that is the hessian bag. How fortunate it is that I have long car journeys on Saturday and Sunday – and, of course, that the new Polo has a CD player. Jim Moray is an innovative singer and producer, born Douglas Oates, who is never afraid to push the boundaries of his music. You never know quite what he is going to do next. The last time I saw him he performed an immaculate set of freshly restored traditional songs, followed by a version of Paul Simon’s “America” with accompaniment on his late father’s concertina which he would be the first to admit that he has not mastered. He will. Just give him time. Best wishes to all Chris Chris It's quite often a better rate using the atms in Prague than currency exchange places over here so if you don't get chance to get more then don't get worried over it. One thing to watch is that many shops don't take credit cards particularly model shops but hotels are normally fine with cards. We have yet to book our trip to CZ in a few weeks time as our usual hotel has rocketed in price so reviewing our plans depending on what happens to the £ this week. Just don't have much motivation to travel out of thr UK at the moment but should do before it becomes harder to do so after Halloween if it goes the way its heading. Thoughts definitely with John and Sandy. Brings back memories of our late friend four years ago. 16
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 3, 2019 Afternoon all, Little to report but Mrs Stationmaster was very efficiently dealt with in X-Ray at our local (almost) hospital - paperwork done in a matter of minutes and then on into the photographic bit and we were on our way out of the building before the booked time of her appointment. just shows how local hospitals can be so much more efficient from the patients viewpoint than the massive centralised heaps. On a less positive note the NHS admin system continues to grind amazingly slowly in respect of getting the Good Doctor through her joining administrative bits & pieces but on the plus side they've only lost the paperwork once (so far). Interesting to see that Bob 81C is being pursued by younger women as well, no doubt they are presuming he's a man of wealth so worth chatting up for a good time. Thoughts with John and Sandy, very difficult to say any more than that but hopefully even some thoughts will be just a little help at present.. 16 1
