Hi Dave, found this photo earlier which you may be of interest:

This album from Dave F will no doubt brighten your Wednesday!

Thanks Alex. I actually found that photo of Haymarket yesterday while trawling flickr for photos of the depot. There are some very useful shots on there. As a result of the new photos I found, I'm now in the process of modifying the new shed a little.

That album from Dave F is fantastic. Will have a good look at it later. Thanks for the tip!

Cheers

Dave,

Bit late replying to this but a couple of years ago, there was a stand at Workington Model Show from a model shop in Botany Bay that specialised in American kit buildings (certainly Walthers but a fairly broad choice). I rarely go to Botany Bay myself but Googling does turn up a reference to Hoyles Model Railways The Shunters Yard, which I guess is them, if they're still there...

Hi folks,

Just a quick update on the progress made on the first depot building.

After some research on flickr looking for photos of Haymarket depot, I have now modified the sides of this building, adding the "windows" on either side. These seemed to be so mucky that it was impossible to tell they were translucent, at least from the outside, so I've not worried about making them transparent.

I'm much happier with the look of the building now and I think it looks much closer to the prototype, so after some fettling and touching up, it will be on to the painting stage. Interior detail such as girders, etc. will be added after I've done the basic spraying (which will be rail grey with the "windows" a darker shade).

Still plenty of work to be done, especially on the corners, but I'm getting there...

Hi folks,

I put this post on my Great North Run thread, but I thought I'd be cheeky and post it here too. In order words, a shameless bare-faced bump as there are only three weeks to go now. Yikes.

I've managed to raise over £450 so far, including gift aid, with more to come hopefully, so please do sponsor me whatever you can afford. I'm getting greedy now and aiming for £600.

Got my running number last week. Disappointed not to be running under a bone fide loco TOPS number. Running as a Class 27 would have been good. Close, but not close enough.   :jester:

I see Mo Farah is running again this year, which has dented my prospects a little, as he's quite good apparently and won it last year. If I can cut just an hour or so off my expected time, I might stand a chance. What is so unfair though is that he gets a head start on the rest of us. Every time I've done it I've been tucked in nicely behind the leading pack for quite a while. But then the starting gun goes and I've tended to fall behind after that.

Training is not going too badly, although set back by two weeks holiday and a slight injury trying to do too much on the first run back. I've only got three weeks left in which to step it up now. Scary.

I'm really looking forward to it, as it is always great fun, but it has been quite a commitment. I'm approaching 400 training miles so far this year. That's a lot of modelling time missed!

Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated, not just by me of course but also by Children with Cancer UK and the ultimate beneficiaries - the children themselves. A huge huge thank you to the RMWebbers who have already stumped up their hard-earned cash for the cause.

Nice work Dave, I do like depot buildings. Very sad I know! But, there is something about diesel depots and seeing locos stabled up. In my opinion......

That's not to say that I don't like seeing them working, on the contrary, as I most certainly do, I have always enjoyed visiting depots. Must be from my days as a teen!

Looking forward to seeing your next update. Sorry for waffling on!

Hi folks,

Just another pitstop update...

Work on the first depot building is progressing and has now moved on to the painting stage, even though the building itself is not quite complete or detailed yet. I thought I'd do the basic colours and then add pre-sprayed/painted details to make painting easier.

The cladding has been sprayed rail grey and weathered and the side "windows" have also been painted, although I think these are a little dark at the moment. I have also applied the first coat of brick colour on the brick base. Plenty to do yet but I think it's starting to look how I want it to now.

Hope to get some more done this weekend.

Good stuff - always looks the part  with a primer coat - shows up where to put the filler as well :)

Wow that last picture I had to look twice at! What colour do you spray the track Dave? An overall misting of RM sleeper grime?

Thanks,

Jack.

Hi Jack

A mixture of RM Sleeper Grime, Roof Dirt and Weathered Black using aerosols. My favoured weathering combination. Hope that helps!

Edit: I find that using the aerosols guarantees a nice matt finish.

Cheers

Hi folks,

Well, I've been home alone for the past couple of days, so I've had quite a bit of time to set about the new depot building.

Initial weathering has now been done and it's starting to look the part a bit more now. A little more weathering remains to be done, along with the fitting of some internal structure, details, lights and signs.

The dimensions and to some extent the proportions are quite different from the real building, but I think it captures the essence of the shed within the constraints of the space I have available, which is my aim with the whole layout really.

I'm looking forward to plonking it on the layout and moving on to the next one now.

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd post some shots of one of Waverley West's original InterCity-liveried HST. This set has been completely resprayed and fitted with South West Digital sounds chips, one in each power car.

and E41071...

The coaches in this rake have been fitted with Shawplan LazerGlaze and etched window frames. The interiors were painted and passengers installed. It wasn't cheap and it took a long time to do the whole rake, but I reckon it was worth it.

Hi folks,

Nipped down to Waverley West this afternoon as the sun was shining. There was a good variety of traction on show, including 60009, 47707, an InterCity-liveried HST and 101/107/150 DMUs...

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of 47510 Fair Rosamund which is now running very sweetly after a complete strip-down and overhaul...

First up, a quick snatched photo as she appears out of The Mound Tunnel  after being given the road to cross over to the Aberdeen route...

attachicon.gif47510 3.jpg

Followed a few seconds later as she runs through Princes St. Gardens with a rake of Mk 1s and 2ds in tow ...

May I ask where you obtained these signals from Dave? I'm after some 3 aspects with feathers and subs for my own layout.

Thanks

Hi Simon,

They were originally made by Roger Murray, whose business has now been taken over by Matt Turner of Absolute Aspects.

Cheers
