RMweb Premium thegreenhowards Posted July 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2021 I'm another one who never met Gordon but felt I knew him. I enjoyed his thread and he often popped up with helpful / encouraging comments on my threads. He will be sorely missed. RIP Gordon. Andy

sixoh8sixoh
I never had the chance to meet Gordon in person but he was incredibly supportive, helpful and patient and took so much time to share his knowledge and experience with me by PM and through this thread. I finally had the chance to say hello face-to-face during the ERs virtual meet-up which was lovely. My thoughts are with Jackie and Gordon’s family, as I know are all of those who knew Gordon through the forum. A really sad day, losing someone with so much more to achieve and with the energy and outlook of someone half his age. Gordon, you’ll be missed deeply. 1
manna
G'day Folks Only knew Gordon through RM Web, but we had crossed paths at Wood Green station, trainspotting 60 years ago. RIP manna
RMweb Gold kipford Posted July 13, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2021 I always enjoyed Gordon's thread and it is so sad he never got to complete the project. RIP hopefully there is a great railway in the sky for you to build. 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post lezz01 Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2021 Let me see if I can put my thoughts and feelings into words. Times have changed! Our life experiences have also changed. Before the advent of the interweb our friendships were formed by personal contact, once maybe twice a week at our clubs and maybe once or twice a year at our yearly exhibitions run by our society's. Our circle of friends was comparatively small and driven by personal contact and mostly local to where we live. Our circle of friends was widened by our belonging to special interest society's, in my case the EM and S4 society's. Our losses we very personal because our circle of friends was small. With the internet that circle of friends has widened, we now know modelers from all over the world and our contact with these friends has increased as we chat to our wider circle almost every day, indeed if we are helping our friends with projects as I have been with Bob and others then we have much more contact with our on line friends than we do with our friends that we have actual physical contact with. The fact that we don't have an actual person to person, face to face connection to each other here on the web doesn't make these friendships any less real than the actual personal contact friendships we have in the world outside the web. Our circle of friends is now huge, we have a thing that is dear to our hearts in common so our on line friendships can be stronger than off line friendships. It's OK to feel our losses and because they are on line losses doesn't make them less valid or less painful. We are human and we are social animals, losing members of our social group is painful. The advent of the interweb means that we now touch many, many, more lives than we used to. Our world is now huge and we touch each others lives in ways that were unthinkable even 20 years ago. Today there has been a huge outpouring of grief and sadness for the loss of Gordon, we were all rooting for him and many of us were praying for him. I'm sure that his family will take comfort from the fact Gordon touched so many peoples lives from all around the world and that he was loved by us all. Gordon won't be the last, there will be many losses, indeed we will all pass away and because our circle of friends is now huge our losses will also be huge but our support network is also huge so we can deal with our grief in the knowledge that we are here to support each other in ways that 20 years ago were unheard of and the memories of us will last longer because there are now many more memories of each of us spread across many, many, more people. RMweb Gold Trevellan Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2021 Immensely sad news to wake up to. I'm another who only knew Gordon through RMweb, but greatly enjoyed his posts. In modelling terms he threw away items that I can only dream of building, such was his search for the best possible layout. His traverser was a work of art and something I still hope to emulate. R.I.P. Gordon. 1

jukebox
Incredibly sad news. Like so many, although we had not met, I considered him a friend, and imagined the day post-Covid where we could meet face to face. He was an inspiration, and will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family and friends. Scott Perth, Australia 1

RMweb Premium Dragonboy Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2021 Such sad news and my condolences to Gordon’s family. Like many on here I never met Gordon but followed his modelling avidly and took inspiration from it. I think it was Gordon building his own track which pushed me over the edge into building my own track in N gauge. Thoroughly enjoyable exercise and a very successful outcome. RIP sir. We will all miss you. Brian

SteveyDee68
I'd deliberately not checked my ET notifications for a while, looking forward to a Netflix-style binge-read catch up, and earlier I found the earliest unread post and started my catch up... I am at a loss for words... RIP Gordon, and may I also add my condolences to his family and friends, and to all of you here on RMWeb who knew him. RMweb Premium newbryford Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2021 I never met Gordon personally, but communicated with him a few times because of work. Always a gent. As golfers, we were hoping that we could "swap a round" one day. Alas, that will not happen on this earth. One day, Gordon, we will meet and play the perfect round. RIP. 2
Simon Hartshorne
Terrible news. So very sad. Such a shame that we won’t be able to read his updates and listen to his wise words again. Deepest condolences to his family.

Brian D
Despite having been pre-warned this news was coming, it's still such an emotional shock. Like many others, I only new Gordon through RMWeb and much admired his first class modelling - such a shame that ET will not now be completed by its creator. As I get older, having recently celebrated my three score and twelve, I am very conscious that no one lives forever but it is always difficult to accept this fact when hearing such news. It's not the first time I have lost a RMWeb friend and no doubt it won't be the last. Still always sad and difficult to accept. Deepest sympathy and heart felt condolences to Gordon's family and close friends. Brian. 4
porkinel
This is not the news many of us wanted to hear. I joined rmweb after a show at chasewater many years ago and have never posted a comment, but i feel i must say goodbye Gordon. He made us laugh with some of his comments, gave us ideas, he made us think about design and build trackwork plus a whole host of other things. The local timber merchant will miss him as much as us!! How i will miss looking forward to the next episode of eastwood town and the man himself. I send my condolences to his wife and family, but i hope that somewhere in the great beyond there is layout that needs some help and advice from the man we will miss. Rest in peace Gordon S 7

DLPG
What a great inspiration Gordon has been to so many. I would never have binned Code 100 and started building my own turnouts. He was always on hand for support and advice. I will certainly miss the updates on Eastwood Town. A fantastic layout in the making. A huge loss to our modelling family. My condolences to all of Gordon’s family and friends. He will be a huge miss. Edited July 17, 2021 by DLPG 2 1
