The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Recommended Posts

Ah thanks Jo.I didn't think there was anything left in Swindon other than the scrap trains, I shall look out for that as i live in Swindon now .

It often runs as a very short train, a 66 with 3 - 4 wagons is common. Neat little working to photograph, yet I am always in the wrong place at the right time and the right place at the wrong time!

Cheers,

Jack

60054 was on the West Coast at this time Mick, it overtook 60065 between Wigan and Warrington, 60054 was put onto the Up Slow at Acton Bridge for a Pendo to overtake it, 60065 was checked as 60054 was let out at Hartford and they then ran "block to block" from Hartford Junction to Crewe.

There was a DB red 60 on tanks at Newark on Friday about 13:30, waiting to cross the ECML, heading towards Humberside.

I couldn't get its number, nor did I notice any distinguiting marks on it.

I was driving on the A46 at the time!

Acton Bridge, 19 February 2012.

60054 on 6L50, 11:15, Carnforth North Junction - Crewe Basford Hall infrastructure

from the footbridge.

Notice the Pendo heading North, close to being "potted", like the guy who was in the field - oops.

And my version of 60065, Spirit of Jaguar, on 6L52, 11:05, Oubeck Loop - Crewe Basford Hall infrastructure

taken from the field, but no Pendo !

It may be a trick of the light but doesn't the DBS red look to have quickly faded compared to the EWS red that is much older.

My first moving one of 2012 - a slightly grubby 60011 at Althorpe, Lincs, last Wednesday afternoon (presume the same combo that Catkins saw on Friday!) - This is the Preston-Lindsey bitumen tank empties.

There was what appeared to be the headlights and front end of a Class 60 visible in the distance at Eastleigh earlier this evening when I was busy turning my humble Electrostar around.

I would just like to say “thank you†to the likes of Roman, ewsjo and br2975, along with many others, for their generosity in sharing such great photos with us on this thread. Not being in a position to witness these “last days†for myself I especially appreciate them and it will be sad not to see the “tugs†on my occasional visit to the UK.

Thank you all.

Willy

60 049 passed me on the Up Slow just north of Radlett at around half eleven this morning, on a short engineering train... I actually did a 'comedy double take' as it came by, as I've not seen one down that way for a very long time!

Why do Toton Driver's never smile....?
