RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted March 16, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2012 Great pics..................heres a few from my sordid past! 33023 and 33031 doublehead 1V10 the 0914 SO Brighton to Penzance service near Sherborne. This service was doubleheaded in the summer months as it usually loaded to 11 cars. An Oxted line 8 set plus 3 loose coaches. On this day it looks like the Oxted set has got shuffled as the MK2 FK is at the front of the train. Slide dated 21/7/84. Photographer R.Marsh 73120 crosses Stockbridge Road level crossing at Chichester station with a Drayton to Lavant empty aggregates train. This service shuttled between opposite sides of the city until the Gravel pits at Lavant on the former Midhurst line finally shut. Slide dated 29/3/87 Photographer unknown. A rare visitor to the southern end of the Brighton mainline, 37109 approaches Mill Road Brighton with an excursion from Great Yarmouth. Photo taken 5/12/81. 45113 captured at Gatwick Airport with the 1816 Brighton to Derby service. Slide undated but is June 1984 or 85. We used to get this train to Gatwick, beer in the airport and then back to the platform for the Manchester to Brighton service. An unidentified Cig / Big formation heads south at Copyhold Junction with a Victoria to Brighton semi-fast working. The line leading off to the right is the Ardingly branch. Slide dated 22/5/80. On a frosty Saturday morning Class 47 47437 and 33012 wait to depart Brighton station with the 0847 to Manchester Piccadilly and 0830 to Cardiff respectively. Slide dated April 1984

Rivercider
I'm loving this, great shots of DEMUs, I like the EMUs in the snow, double head 33s, and Exeter Central, what a treat! Another visit to Salisbury, I went via Exeter this time, this time it rained all day so I only took a few pics. 50001 Dreadnought had been my train engine for the trip up from Exeter on the 09.40 from St Davids here it is departing Salisbury, the DEMU is 1401, 9/3/81 33101 arrives on a semi-fast from Waterloo, with 4TC units 420 and 401, 9/3/81 Hither Greens 33034 in platform 1 with loaded sealions, 9/3/81. 31419 is working the 11.00 Bristol - Portsmouth, and it is still raining, 9/3/81 At this point I gave up and started my journey home, 33003 was my loco on the 12.39 to st Davids cheers

jonny777
Dont have too much from the 1980s, but here are a couple from the 1970s at Clapham Junction.
Jack
I've got tons more, mostly Kent 1980-86ish, so rather than flooding the forum, any particular requests? Any of Faversham, Canterbury or Gillingham (in particular the sidings where the used to stable the locos)?
Eggesford box
Not the worlds best, taken on an old Zenith and suffered in storage but to go with the others of Exeter Central...
Southernman46
Some smashing stuff being produced.................keep going Love the Lavant hoppers - never seen a picture of these in a train More 4-SUB's please ?
eastwestdivide
Any of Faversham, Canterbury or Gillingham (in particular the sidings where the used to stable the locos)? None of Faversham (surprisingly), but Canterbury with a 47 on I think Dover-Willesden cars and ferries, 1984: Gillingham with a 33 (named) on down ferries, 1984: And GIllingham with a Hastings unit on a railtour visiting Chatham Dockyard, 1985. 2 73s hiding in the sidings, and the de-icer hiding behind the signalbox:
eastwestdivide
More 4-SUB's please ? Clapham Junction from about 81-83, including the green one: a comparison with the new 508s, and showing the tail lamp: Nice shot of the stencil headcode (didn't the secondman's window open outwards to replace the stencils?): And nowhere to hide from the pouring rain, when Clapham Junction's roof was holier than the Pope:

Brake Compo
I have really enjoyed this topic, so I ought to start posting some of mine - a random dig onto one of my boxes of slides for scanning in produced these from 28 December 1987. First lets go down the Drain followed by a Class 205 at Ashford on the same day, just after I arrived from Hastings on it:
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted March 17, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 17, 2012 A few more to whet your appetite......lots more on my photo gallery at http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/ 33118 passes Eastleigh with the diverted SO Brighton to Exeter / Paignton service. Engineering works is the likely cause of the diversion (Southampton Tunnel?) through Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford. Slide dated 3/3/84. Photographer unknown 47451 passes through Clapham Junction with the 0715 SunO Manchester to Brighton service. the guard looks out his compartment in the BG to check progress Slide dated 1981. 4VEG 7904 departs East Croydon with a Littlehampton to Victoria service whilst 47440 waits for the off with the 0920 Brighton to Manchester Piccadilly service. Slide dated 14/3/81. Photographer unknown The loss of through services between Brighton - Salisbury and Exeter is a bit of a pet subject............just don't get me started! However in better times we see 50028 'Tiger' at Northam with the 0905 SO Brighton to Plymouth service. Slide dated 3/6/89. Photographer P.Barber. Class 47 47042 waits at Eastbourne with an unidentified service probably a return Merrymaker or possibly the SAGA train to Newcastle. 4CIG 7314 heads a service for London Victoria. Andy Louch
Good morning all, Really enjoying this thread! Steadily scanning through loads of slides from this era and managed a few trips 'daan saarf' from my (then) Midlands base not realising I would move to Hampshire in the mid-1990'S! A couple of my mediocre efforts attached. I know the photo of 50050 is out of the era but was only time I saw a 50 in the docks on an Ocean Liner Special for QE2 when I worked in the Port of Southampton! jonny777
I bought this photo on Ebay for 50p some time ago. It is rather poor quality, hence the price, but interesting nevertheless as it shows a 2-BIL in green on the SR track, but in the background on the left is a Blue Pullman heading towards Reading station on the WR. jonny777
A few more from me. I included the 33 at Southampton more for the period cars in the car park, than the rail interest. Is that a lime green Jensen Interceptor?

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted March 17, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 17, 2012 Thanks for some afternoon entertainment. So many memories, especially of Exeter. Yup, you certainly don't appreciate what you have until it's gone. Superb stuff chaps; I don't think I've got anything I can post on here but I'm now tempted to go to the great store in the loft!
