Dapol Catalogue 12.jpg

Dapol Catalogue New items for 2012 / 2013

Dapol has had a great year with our models and we were deeply honoured to win awards in OO for the best Steam Locomotive (for Kernow) and best Diesel Locomotive (For Hattons), and also win the innovation award for the second year running along with best N gauge diesel locomotive.

However we did not rest on our laurels and have been busier than ever with new ideas and innovations, alongside new products in all 3 gauges.

Our new warranty scheme has been extremely successful and seen an increase in available parts that have not been readily accessible before.

Our signals have sold amazingly well, and new versions of these are in hand, along with scale working aspect signals.

New this year is the ability for stockist to buy their locomotives (where marked) DCC fitted as we will be able to supply these models with a Gaugemaster DCC23 on board. This is a first for British N gauge and DCC fitted locomotive boxes will be specially marked to avoid confusion.

Another innovation this year is the train set pack.

We believe that this is a positive step to encourage new modellers into the hobby with quick and simple DC and DCC train sets that can easily be expanded. With this in mind we have teamed up with both Gaugemaster for their fantastic controllers, and Peco for their world renowned track system, to offer train set starter packs that should encourage and enthuse both newcomers to the hobby and established modellers alike.

Please note the different codes for some products are part or our transition from original product codes to new ones and ALL the ones published here are correct at the time of going to press.

N Gauge

N gauge is particularly well catered for this year with the following overview of products either in transit, in production or in the tool room as this is read. (unless noted)

NEW Steam

0-6-0 Pannier Tank locomotive

NPAN-02.jpg

This model was developed long before the announced re-chassis of the Graham Farish one, and using Dapol’s expert ‘know how’ with the Terrier features a similar outlook with a few alterations to allow us to offer even better running and detail characteristics.

The model features the correct cabs, whistle shield etc for the relevant production numbers, and we even have a riveted water tank available for those that used them.

Also a first for such a small engine is that it is DCC ready with a 6 pin NEM651 socket in the cab below door height so it is not visually intrusive.

See through wheels, tungsten chassis, 50-1 gear ratio, etched sanding levers, and factory fitted etched brass number plates complete the main features of this model.

It will be sold with a pair of magnetic couplers within the packaging for those that wish to fit them to their model.

The Panniers will be available in the following decorations and the first 4 will be in the shops prior to the Leamington show in September priced at an RRP. of £66.50

English electric Class 50

Nicknamed ‘Hoovers’ due to their distinctive sound, this model in updated form is long overdue. Not happy with the look or ‘face’ of current models, we have decided to take a fresh look at the class using modern technology as well as original works drawings and refurbishment drawings available.

This, combined with the model having working headlight, hedcode panels and marker lights, along with Dapol’s now standard chassis and DCC ready / Fitted option will make it a fine addition to any modeller wishing one for their West Coast or Western Region Mainline.

Using the technology from our class 26 and 27 it was only wise to produce these models missing from our range.

Initial release will be the class 33/1 ‘bagpipe’ loco with the class 33/0 following on a month after, during the 2012/2013 catalogue life span, although they are both in the tool room currently.

Again featuring lit marker panels in the direction of travel allied to our distinctive chassis this model should be popular with all southern modellers.

OO gauge development continues apace with the Western and Class 73, plus the disc headcode class 22’s.

However we have found time to develop the following;

GWR streamlined Railcar

(With grateful thanks to help from Steam Museum (Swindon))

This Railcar has long been admired by modellers but never produced in any gauge as a RTR model.

Ours will benefit from the Laser scanning technique, combines with works drawings and a comprehensive photo survey.

The chassis leaves us able to produce not only cars 2-4 but also, at a later date cars 5-7.

Featuring full internal art deco detailing with internal lighting, and cab details. Our tried and tested award winning diesel locomotive chassis design and PluX22 DCC compatibility.

O gauge

This previous year has seen Dapol engage in developing another area of models railways to our ever expanding portfolio.

O gauge at a true representative, affordable price has garnered attention since it was announced at Warley 2011.

We can now announce further projects in this scale.

Terrier 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive

O gauge terrier.jpg

Using laser scanned technology this will be the second of our O gauge locomotives to break cover (with more under development) and will, like the 08 previously announced have an RRP of £199.95

Featuring full cab detail, our OO motor connected to a flywheel and DCC compatibility, aligned with darkened profile wheels (to GOG standards) and a heavy chasis it is bound to be very popular.

Please note we are working on more freight wagons and locomotives and these will be announced in due course should we find production slots available for them.

O gauge milk tanks and signals... this could be very useful, thankyou. I guess work on my O gauge project can begin in earnest - although still looking forward to hearing about the "more O gauge wagons" particularly if it involves Railfreight box vans... incidently, are the milk tanks "blown up" versions of those already in your catalogue or a different type of milk tank altogether?

Some interesting announcements in N and OO as well which I hope will migrate their way up to O gauge in due course.

Some great items there Dave, not all for me but then I didn't expect them to be.

Good Luck, I wish you every success with the new products, I will be buying some myself in the fullness of time !

Fantastic! I have recently been pondering on whether to give up on my "railway modelling" as my job and family mean that I rarely get chance to model and have become more of a collector. However the Class 122 looks fabulous, I also like the look of the panniers and the Bullied pacific - BUT the news of a RTR Terrier at a budget price (for O gauge) also has me thinking about a micro O gauge shunting layout.

Well done Dapol, and thanks to Andy for bringing us the news!

Good, gives me chance to get the Vulcan 57xx built before Dapol scale up their N gauge CAD to 7mm

Will seriously look at the signals for Fourgig too. Can I get away with a milk tanker on a GWR heritage railway????

Can I have one of these please Dave?

The pannier looks lovely and a massive improvement on the existing Farish model. The only downside to this one (and an understandable compromise) is the skirt under the boiler. The fruit D is also a massive plus.

Can I get away with a milk tanker on a GWR heritage railway????

Yes there are 2 on the South Devon Railway that are run in replica milk trains

Yippee. Class 22 in N which is one of the missing links for me. Should I ever go BR blue, the hoover will apply as well but thats a longer term dream following a lottery win.

May even stump up for a pannier or 2 as whilst I do suppress my steam instincts, I still have a dream of a small GWR BLT. (Doesn't every one :-) )

Even those items I don't want keep raising the bar in N Gauge and I do wonder if more people will be tempted away from RTR in other gauges to try something smaller and get more.

Also I think its great to see Dapol showing ambition with the OO and O gauge offerings so good luck to them.

Great news on the 08 in green with Wasp stripes. Well done Dapol.

I suppose its only a mater of time now for the pannier in O flat cab and large cab versions? Well I will buy 3 of them

cant have enough Panniers for Ranelagh Bridge

An excellent array indeed, particularly excited by the 59, although (and I really hate to be one of 'those' people) isn't there a real dearth of aggregate wagons for them to haul? Would love some of the Hanson/ARC JHAs as in both of those photos, and a Hanson liveried loco to match! There's the old Farish ARC/Yeoman PGAs, but we've not PTA/JTA/JHAs or anything.

Still, a great list, love the idea of DCC fitted locos, well done!

Excellent news in N re the Maunsell coaches and class 22 (aswell as the already announced Bullied light pacifics) for modelling the south Western in Devon and Cornwall in the 1960's!

The N scale network rail wagons will be handy for Banbury.

was it worth the wait

I did 'hide' this comment but thought I'd highlight it as an example of being totally pointless; just what does it add to the topic? You were the one champing at the bit and posting a question implying no-one had provided you with the information as promised (at 6.55 this morning - it's not as though the 18th had come and gone is it?).

The answer to you question is obviously "Yes for some people but not for some others (what else would you expect?)". Please do think a little before posting; it's no wonder some pople roll their eyes when they see some of the stuff posted on the 'net when someone thinks they've got something to say just because they can.

Damn you Dapol! How am I supposed to afford all these wonderful N gauge items with a baby due in September! Congratulations, some excellent choices there...

The Schools and the Maunsell coaches look superb. The Pannier tank is a 'must-buy' for me... Well done!

Weeeeeeeeee thud.

You hear that.....thats the sound of my wallet throwing itself off the balcony!

Class 50 :)

Class 33 :biggrin_mini2:

Schools :O :locomotive: :yahoo:

And a quick google confirms that a Pannier has visited the MHR, so one of those will be added to the visiting loco pool. It looks fantastic!

The Bullieds are also looking promising. I have a few observations regarding the CADs, but thats for another thread.

Right, I'm off to the Olympic Park to see if they need any extra security gaurds to pay for this lot!

Cheers Dapol!

Tom.

Wow, from drought to flood for SR modellers (a bit like our weather ;)). I am a GWR man at heart but there is plenty here for me as well with a Pannier, fresh run of Halls, 122, 22 and Fruit D! Plus of course the already-announced Western. :locomotive:

Just a thought, there seems to be no mention of the 2884. Has that been put on the back burner again or just missed of the online announcement?
