My detailing/repainting projects

Recommended Posts

Yes theyre very fine, look the biz though. I think Ill be ok getting em sorted though mate. Making the front handrails on my class 45 was some extreme fiddly factor work!

That picture does illustrate how similar the two colours look on the 31 though Jon even on a clean ex works finish without weathering and fade being involved. The hue is clearly evident as I mentioned before though with the railfreight being a much warmer shade. Interesting to note that they have not painted the orange cantrail stripe though!

Odd that, yes, I'd not noticed. The stripe is over the cabs though... another livery variation?

The variation in grey tone shows up well on this one too.

Cheers....Jon

I may well have tweaked the cabs on one for MD but could live with the roof grilles given the p!$$ poor farish version. Is Dapol planning on a later version 56 do we know? with correct roof grilles (it was an odd decision to have em that way in the first place tbh)? I am also still not convinced about the depth of body below the cab windows to bottom of the body either if I was being picky. Looks awfully deep. Of course thats nothing to do with your excellent work.

Dapol are releasing a Doncaster built version which will be much more 'correct' than the Romanian version which was pretty much an amalgamation of both Doncaster and Romanian with about the only thing right being the rounded front cab windows and some nose end detail.. However it still looks, from the pre production photos, that all the releases will only have the later cantrail grills. The grills are a relatively easy fix but you will need another bodyshell to hack up for the extra grills...some photos of the conversion here:

Looks very good but a pricey option for a couple of grilles. I wonder if a 3D printed one would work?

Jaffa looks good Lee!

Superb, Lee. Just superb.

In the time it's taken you to do that, I think I've sprayed the yellow, blue and gloss varnish on my latest project. It's got to be finished by Christmas though as it's my younger daughter's Christmas present! (she's a 37 fan).

Cheers,

Dave

Testing the DRS 37 lighting

Removing EWS gold stripes is not one of my favourite pastimes.

Lab 23 is finally finished.

11051105984_43b66226e6_b.jpg

For some reason I had terrible trouble trying to get the varnish to go flat and matt on 124, absolutely no idea why. Sorted this afternoon.

11051105644_076004943d_b.jpg

In the couple of a couple of bigger brothers, one of which is to become another 124!

Looking forward to doing this beast, 60's are really growing on me.

Soon to be large logo heaven!

A little bit different from the usual loco stuff! One of the new container cranes....it's getting painted into fictional Freightliner livery.

This odd looking thing has just been renumbered.

11089339454_85647cae7e_b.jpg

These transfers were trickier than I thought, first of all there is a white background, followed by the red, and then the big blue t. Quite difficult to get them all lined up!

Yellow yellow yellow....

This has been renumbered, and weathering started. Quite subtly, the pictures just show it as having slightly faded nose ends, a grubby roof, dirty grilles, and a bit of lower bodyside muck. Nothing too heavy.

Your 60015 looks like it's in two-tone grey, rather than triple grey. Is it just the lighting/shadow?

With many repaints comes the ever increasing need for paint supplies. I stocked up not so long back, but find myself going through a load of gear. It's a complete pain not having a local stockist, so now I just wait until I need quite a bit of stuff, and then order direct.

Thick end of £100 here   :scratchhead:

11119534434_5c51cb8d2c_b.jpg

After adding some new lamp irons to Ethel, I also had to do some handrails, as the Bachmann ones as well as being rather overscale, don't react very well when paint stripping.

Next job on the cards has been fitting some Farish DMU's with internal lighting.

11119465195_2967412f61_b.jpg

I tried experimenting with the colour a bit, on the left is the original, on the right my 'yellowed version'.

Not bad at all   :paint:

Hi Lee,

Interesting photos recently.

You are lucky in some respects with the amount paint products you get through, because at least you are always working with fresh materials. This is unlike mere amateurs such as myself who, having completed a model, look in the paint box after several months to find the appropriate paints either gone off or skinned over. Humbrol matt varnish is another product which doesn't like being left alone for too long or it settles out to an almost solid lump in the bottom of the tin!

All the best,

Colin

The batch of large logo locos is well on the way   :senile:

11176849035_bbb477e760_b.jpg

Well on the way to getting her coal sector livery

11176926904_fb4bef641c_b.jpg

Part painted into fictional Freightliner livery.

I have worked on a couple of the excellent 00 scale Westerns, but this really does take the biscuit. Perfection in n gauge.

11177043443_64e2ff19f0_b.jpg

These are also n gauge as well.

11176848795_76d35c4410_b.jpg

Now then, this is going to be an interesting one. This pair of 08's were privately owned and used in china clay land. I have been asked to change them into faded blue, and add lighting. Not just any old lighting.

11176846195_21307fbd8d_b.jpg

Check this out!

11176922674_01c8dc2478_b.jpg

both these shunters had an orange flashing cab mounted light, and, a pair of spotlights. As well as the normally fitted 08 lights. I have a vision of many expletives.......
