Still have a lot of ballasting left to do, and straightening out the track with pins.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Evening all,

Thanks for all the likes and comments, much appreciated!

Just a few photos to show the progress of the ballasting, which has mostly dried now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to crack on with it over the weekend, as well as laying the trunking down.

  • 2 weeks later...

Evening all,

Over the last few night I have continued ballasting on the left hand board, focusing mainly on the back siding which I removed the board to work on. This evening I have moved my attention to the mainline, in which I've ballasted around a foot of two tracks. I've come up with my own method for ballasting, using an empty tic tac box to spread the ballast, this is actually perfect for ballasting would thoroughly recommend using it, a hairdresser's water dispenser to wet the track, a syringe to add the mixture then finally a small paintbrush to remove the excess ballast from the sleepers. I am planning to film an update for my YouTube channel over the next few days. A few photos of progress and a video of 818 at Grimley:

Hi Will,

Not sure why I haven't posted here before I have been following the thread when I get time but must admit it's been a while since I last looked. The trackwork and ballasting looks superb.

Looks like you have more room than the old man. lol

Nice to see a vid of Grimley, pleased to see it still gets some use. Such a great layout.

Cheers Peter.

Thanks Peter! Yeah I reckon I have got more room than my father, but don't tell him that! ;)

Thanks for your kind comments.

Morning all,

After taking a leaf out of Waverly West's book I have tried to recreate some of his natural light photos at New Southwich. I am very pleased with the effect it has created and would definitely recommend "giving it a go". Anyway onto the photos:

Hi Will,

Just thought I'd drop by and say hello on here. The sections you have ballasted are really coming on.

Great to see you experimenting with natural light too. I'm a great believer in it as you know. For every good photo I take plenty of shots that don't look all that great, but when you do get it right it really is worth it. Thank goodness for digital cameras, otherwise it would be a very expensive business!

Looking forward to watching your progress.

Cheers

Dave

I have tried in the past but to no avail, to get Will to back date New Southwich to the 80s and early 90s. But on Saturday I managed to take a few photos of my 26 on his layout.

Evening all,

Over the last few nights I've been progressing slowly with the ballast. Also I've ordered a new gaugemaster prodigy advance 2 controller which should be with me by Tuesday, will definitely be doing some videos of trains on the layout! Photos to follow:

Evening everyone,

Tonight I've set up my new controller, only to find that it dislikes one of the fiddle yards. However I've still managed to run trains, and with the help of my dad we managed to get 818 up and running! A quick video of it passing the silos, I will film a full running session tomorrow.

Thanks,

Will

Evening all,

Yesterday I spent a long time out in the train room, completing a few jobs here and there. They include:

-Spraying the initial coat of frame dirt onto the curved board.

-Strengthening the underneath of the curved board.

-Priming the fence and odd detailing parts such as the point motors and ground frames.

-Sorting out the joins in the board.

-Painting the edge of the board black.

-Adding modelling rock onto the hillside for added strength.

-Continuation of the ballast.

Photos of the layout to follow:

Over the next few days I will spray the ground frames and point motors as well as spraying the concrete sleepers on the curve and cracking on with the ballast.

Finally a video of stock running past New Southwich:

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Evening all,

Today I have spent spraying the track on the curved board, and prepping the sleepers for the initial coat of plasticoat suede concrete colour. I've also sprayed the various details for the layout; including point heaters, point motors and priming a container ready for a "fly tipping scene".

Details being sprayed:

Track and embankment being sprayed:

The mock up fly tipping scene, (please note the trees are just random old ones I found in a box and will be replaced with new ones):

I plan on cutting the doors open and adding clutter to the surrounding ground, rusting up the container and perhaps adding a burnt out car but more on that in the coming weeks.

Finally some photos of 47818 and 60018 on the layout:

Evening all!

Thanks WCML it's finally feeling as if it's progressing!

Today my dad and I have sprayed the concrete sleepers on the curved scenic board. Hopefully I will be able to crack on with the ballasting and next weekend install the servos for the points.
