Definitely not the steps they look like springs between two plates... for the moment I’ve left them off, and the van looks complete without them during my lunchtime building... RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted May 6, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2020 I wonder why the bottom left foot board has been extended and is it repeated on the other side?. I wonder if the casting have been packed in error and are for some other kit. I have found some odd castings and sprues in kits.

They look to me like the additional springs from a Comet 9’ pressed steel GWR bogie. 2 1

I don’t recall missing any Comet vogue springs but will put them away just in case.

That photograph just oozes atmosphere! Interesting to note the chalk scrawls on the SR van. Reminds me of a rather excellent article John Hayes wrote in 1999. I always like this pair. Kind regards, Nick.
RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted May 6, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2020 Speaking of brown stock, what were the rules on end colour? Black or brown? I always thought black but after spending some time looking at photos I’m now not so sure...

It is a rather charming little vehicle. I do like the late Edwardian GWR covered van designs. Kind regards, Nick. Nick, the Y3 fruit C the kit represents survived until the mid 50s. However the similar Y9 Fruit C lasted well into the 60s. The main difference was they had twin bonnet ends (like standard GW vans and, I would assume, Morton brake gear. l’ve got one of these kits in my to do pile which I intend to modify to a Y9. 1
