A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Not just the funnies, Rob. You give us a tiny glimpse into a rosy world, where we can discuss train formations, the various 4 mm figures and kits we can aspire to, and a few firm friends we can follow without the vaguest chance of ever meeting them.

Please keep up the good work.

Rich

Just think carefully, should you be tempted to run anything from the 'LNER'.

Well at long last something form the right side of the country and in natural wood livery.

Right side of the country today is as you look at the map.  No more no less.

Hi Ian

If I were prime minister the first law I would pass would be all cute pannier tanks should be painted dark red and have Routemaster bus transfers on their tanks. :rtfm:  Or is that too controversial. :dontknow:

Well - yes and no. We can now see the full four vehicles, but the third one doesn’t make sense in Southern terms. The Southern made most of its coaches up into permanent sets, and in most cases those sets had a BTK at both outer ends. The set number would be painted on the end of the brake. Here we have a brake mid-set, which was not usual. So flipping that third coach and placing it at the rear of the train would be better. However, comma, I fear one of the brakes may be a BCK, rather than BTK, and they tended only to appear in 2-coach sets, a specialist subject about which that Spams chappie is particularly knowledgeable.

Wot he said.

The BTK CK BTK set should have the brake ends leading and tailing the set. The loose BCK can go either end but again the brake end would be outermost of the whole consist.

O Robin, you are never wrong, neither technically, morally, aesthetically or conceptually.

You've obviously never met Mrs GWRROB.
