Trev52A
Two from the sixties... D6831 heads south past Low Fell Sidings with a coal train (though not sure what that is coupled directly behind the loco) on 29th April 1967, passing Q6 No 63346 shunting on the site of today's Tyneside Royal Mail depot. D6902 waits to leave Swalwell Disposal point, near Gateshead, with a coal train on 8th April 1968 as 'Austerity' 0-6-0ST No 71515 shunts in the background. This site is now part of the MetroCentre complex. (This could have made a good 'Guess the location' question - the (ex-)WR Route Availability circle below the Type 3's number might have thrown some people off the scent!) Luvley. The wagon immediately behind the "Boyo" 37 looks to be a Conflat A loaded with an Insulated container although what I'm interpreting as the containers louvres might just be the negative blending the edge of the container with the North East corner of Eslington Court Flats in the distance with Redheugh Court beyond. The summer 67 WTT has the 7N09 down as a class 7* timed freight. 08:10 from Carlisle New Yard to Low Fell Sidings, Arr. 10:55. Rumour had it that when the Welsh class 37's began to be allocated to Gateshead in 1966-7 they were so dirty that the windscreen glasses had to be bead blasted so you could have decent vision through them. Having seen what bead blasting does to toughened glass I reckon it was no more than a rumour. P

Andy Louch
Must admit that I wasn't a great fan of EE Type 3's (later 37s etc.) 'back in the day' however, looking at the excellent B&W photos they are growing on me! I think that they were fairly common around Brum so we preferred their bigger brothers the Tat's (Class 40s) as they were far less often seen! One from earlier this year at Eastleigh where they used to be frequent visitors in the 1980s and 1990s.

Fat Controller
Hi Dave I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out! I don't know the answer, I'm afraid. Here's the extreme edge of the negative which might be a clue. Any takers? RMweb Premium drjcontroller Posted September 7, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2018 (edited) A typical West Highland June day, clouds down over the hilltops and not a sign of any sunshine. The steam heating boiler on 37027 seems to be working well as it departs Bridge of Orchy with the afternoon Fort William to Glasgow train.
