It doesn't get much better than this on the West Highland. 37419 heads north at Achallader with 6Y45, the 06:36 Mossend Yard - Ft William Enterprise service, with a nice mixed load.
Incidentally, I had photographed 37419 the previous afternoon at Drumshinnock on the G&SW with a returning ballast train from Falkland Yard to Carlisle Yard. It's amazing how these locos got about!

Probably the clearest light I ever saw on the Kyle Line in all my trips up there over the years, the view down Loch Carron on this day was absolutely stunning, 4th September 1993.

37402 + 37294 approach Plockton with 2H85, the 12:35 Inverness – Kyle service. The reason for the double heading was unknown, though the pair returned back on the 17:05 Kyle – Inverness service, though whether 37294 went all the way is not known, as it turned up the following morning with 37152 on the 08:30 from Kyle, the Inter City Landcruise.

37405 & 37419 on yesterday's Anglia short-set.

The coaches were 5787, 5937 & 9705.

First time I've seen a DBSO in the set, both 5787 & 9705 were showing evidence of previously fitted but now removed window bars, from use on the Cumbrian rakes?

Cheers,

Phil.

37516/37669 worked the Chester-Carlisle and Hellifield-Chester legs of today's 1Z45/1Z46 Fellsman.

Here they are at Hellifield, starting up, to take over from 46115 Scots Guardsman coming south from Carlisle

37516 in the Down goods loop clags into life.

37669 took about three attempts before it fired up.

And later, ready to depart from the Up goods loop.

Cheers,

Nicely timed shots Mick.

Didn't realise West Coast had 669. (ex cornish beast!)

Cheers

Wayne

It's now fitted with ERTMS and carries the aerials under a new "split" fuel tank. Also fitted with the shark fin aerials as per the 97/3's.

Very much on my to-do list to accompany my other WCRC 37 (Waiting to decide which 47 or 57 to do as well)

Cheers,

Mick

I didn't get a photo of it, but West Coast Rly 37518 plus 33025 hauling four coaches west south today on a Carnforth to Swanage ecs move. Both locos had drivers and both were working.

The shot that made the trip there worth it, Inverness TMD arriving it Blackpool North before northern's delightful staff turfed everyone off despite having tickets.

Colas 37219 'Jonty Jarvis' heading through the rapidly changing Poulton-Le-Fylde, shots not quite what it used to be sadly with the rather hideous GSMR mast now being there...

It's not just a Northern Trains thing. Less than friendly station staff not letting anyone near the platforms until just before departure has long been a fact of life at Blackpool North.

blackpool is renowned for unfriendly staff

first time i went i'd left a train in platform 1 the previous day was walking back to the train to work it back out the next day and the station manageress accosted me.....

"did you leave that train there last night",

"yes" came my reply,

"we'll ive been trying to get hold of someone to move it as i lost a platform today"

"sorry but it's booked to sit there from 22:00 yesterday to 18:00 today"

"well i wanted it moved"

"and here now to do it at booked time"

and on another occassion she refused to let one of my drivers on the platform to prep his train in platform 1 despite him being in full uniform and carrying ID, eventually he was let on by another member of staff, i can tell you though it would only happen once to me, if i ever get refused access there i'd not argue i'd be phoning network rail control to inform them the very important test train wouldn't be running and give them the reason why

I can believe that, they were reluctant to let the driver of the charter on the platform to allow him to route refresh the week before the charter came.

The phrase 'R Soles' comes to mind with the vast majority of them, the man who was clearing everyone off the platform (despite there being a BTP officer watching over all of us) seemed to be suffering a bad case of little man in uniform syndrome...
