Steve-e
The only Skirl O'the Pipes railtour I did was Skirl 7 which seemed to spend more time in England than Scotland I did it from Brimingham back to Birmingham. Anyway it was mega mileage behind 45119 seen here with a photo stop at Goole Cheers Steve

Popular Post Peter Kazmierczak
Running almost an hour late due to the weather, 45117 accelerates away from Derby with the 10.12 Sheffield - St Pancras on 15th December 1981.
Peter Kazmierczak
Not sure of the location, though it could be Syston. Not sure of the date, but it might be 1985. Not sure of the loco, but it may be a Cl.45/1. Not sure of the working, but it's possibly a B'ham - Norwich. All-in-all, not sure really... eastwestdivide
I could easily be persuaded it's Syston - the extra arm on the semaphore could possibly relate to the cement terminal there, and the curvature and bridge are about right looking at online mapping. The coaches are about right for Birmingham/Norwich at that period (they went to Mk2s from Mk1s about 1982ish), although a 45 would be relatively unusual on that service. Not unknown though, as the 31s normally used were never totally reliable, and all sorts got substituted in. And it would have to pre-date the Leicester area resignalling of 1987-ish. JeffP
Class 45 stabled at Frodingham, late 70's, cold winter's evening. Class 46, 46017 at the rear of Frodingham depot, late 70's, what looks like a running in turn. 46's were rarer at Frod. We got 45/0's from both tinsley and Holbeck quite regularly. Inside Cricklewood depot, mid 70's by my mates flares and elephant cord mustard coloured jacket.......

Yes, Syston looking south towards Thurmaston from the bridge immediatly south od Syston station. The 45 is on the down fast heading north. Possibly the 07.41 Leicester-Sheffield/Leeds via Nottingham, but that train was normally 4 Mk1s in the winter, 8-9 Mk1s in the summer when it was extended to Scarborough. When I was with RCE Anglia they were 'banned' - whether this was official or not I am not certain.

If one turned up on a Norwich service from the Midlands, I'm sure they'd swap it out at Peterborough/March for something more suitable.

Jim76
Would be interested to see photos of Peaks on the Manchester South District line. They must've been very common but have only ever seen a couple, one in one of the excellent EM Johnson books and the other on here: http://sutherland.davenportstation.org.uk/ws-156.html
Davey
I was very fortunate in seeing all of the 44s up close and personal as they came out of the works at Derby, lovely machines and great names don't you think?.......my last U.K. journey was behind a Peak( a 45 I think ) in September 1971 on the 8-10 Derby- St. Pancras en route to Australia. Great photos. Rgds.......Mike Agreed, some of the best diesel names ever for the first ten. Davey
Alcanman
Just found a few old Peak pics from the early 80s, so I thought I'd share them. Firstly, Newcastle Central where Peaks were a common sight but named examples not so common. 45144 'Royal Signals' 45125 46051 More to follow... balders
Nice to see some banger blue. 144' and 125' both figured with me for some decent mileage back in the day. Nice photos! Regards Guy

jonny777
I have just bought this Toton transparency on Ebay, which I thought was very interesting and worth sharing. It is not very sharp, so probably taken on an instamatic-type camera; and the slide mount has no details which means I have to guess at the date. However, the collection of locos is fascinating. Most (if not all) seem to have the 72cm size BR double arrow logos which seem almost too large for the cab sides. The two class 20s on the right have theirs above the numbers which are unreadable unfortunately, whereas the one in the centre which looks like 8183 has them below the number; and through the gap between that loco's nose and the peak appears to be a fourth 20's cab with no white markings at all suggesting it is one with the number and BR arrows in front of the cab. The 47 looks like 1956 and is one of the few that never wore two-tone green, being turned out from Crewe in the original BR livery which was soon amended to the central arrows. The Peak left centre is the first of the class now numbered simply 1 with the discontinuation of the D prefix, and extreme left is 24 with split headcodes. My thinking is that this is dated 1970/1, but I am open to suggestions. Edited February 2, 2018 by jonny777
JeffP
D99 at Sheffield Midland circa 1968, stabled awaiting next duty. Same place, same day, D52 "The Lancashire Fusilier" awaits departure for the south, whether London or the SW I'm unsure. My dad was involved with exams in the local area and was at a meeting in the city. Quite how I got to go with him, I'm unsure as I was still at school. Had I known what I know now, I'd have made for Sheffield Victoria to try and see some of the EM2's I never saw, but since we had friends who lived on Moor Road in Wath at that time, the EM1's held no fascination for me.
