Good second go Dave - if I had any criticism it would be the four rivets position - as you could see from the drawing for the CCT and from the photographs they were considerably nearer the centre of the buffer housing....  Interesting of course is that the Bachmann CCT correctly has the bottom rib, and to my eyes at least are one of the more accurate representations of a buffer assembly for RTR, save for the marginally (0.12mm undersize) smaller diameter buffer head.  It won't however stop me from buying two sets for a start.

Yes Bob, the bolts heads are a little large giving that effect but in this scale they are still only 0.6mm. The bolts on the real thing seem much smaller than usual.

They were assembled with 3/4" dia snap head rivets securing the Buffer Housing to the Headstock - Bolts are a sure sign of later replacement of the Buffer Housing, usually at one of the outstations that had no facilities for replacing the rivets (You see the same thing done to the Axleguards).

Okay, the first castings went well today so I'll be using these as sub-masters to make a production mould sometime next week. There are already a number of pre-orders to service then I'll put them on the website and I'll do more for Scalefour North.

Oh and they are a knat's boxxock over length so will be spot on when the production ones are available.

A cruel picture but you get the idea, the door stop hasn't caused any problems but I will have to remove the castings carefully to preserve the rubber mould.

... and under-length & over-length when we get round to springing them.  The door stop looks ripe for drilling out and cleaning up during springing operations. Very nice.

It's going to be clear P, Dave wouldn't accept anything less in his quest for absolute fidelity.

Ordered some buffers and buffer stops from Dave while he en route to the SECC show, he needed to cast some of these items which have arrived safe and sound today. The castings are superb!  Next stop assembly for use on Chapel en le Frith

Okay, the production mould for the BR CCT buffer is nearly ready and once the pre-orders are done they will be available on the website, probably end of next week.

Another new buffer is the Standard LMS coach buffer with the fabricated head, a very common buffer from the early days of the LMS right through to post war when the one piece bufferhead appeared on new stock and repairs.

Hope to have good stocks of both for Scalefour North in April.

Hi all, we have had a number of emails asking about the new 4mm BR CCT buffer, yes BC05 is for the 4 wheel BR design CCT.
As people have been asking we have decided to add it to the website now instead of after Scalefour North and if I need to do more for Scalefour North then I'll just have to...

Another new buffer BC04, is the LMS coach buffer with fabricated head as fitted to earlier LMS coaches and as replacements on some pre-group coaches.

Also added tonight are the five gauges of steel spring wire for CSB suspensions (10, 11, 12, 13, 14 thou). This wire has been supplied with our Tender chassis kits for the last few years and I've used it myself on various locos and tenders and can thoroughly recommend it. It is a high quality, rust resistant steel spring wire and is nice to work with, supplied in a 500mm coil but as soon as the pack is opened it springs out, not quite straight but damn near so watch your eyes!!!!.

Just in case you haven't heard about Continuous Springy Beam suspension here is the set-up on an 0-6-0 tank.

Looking forward to Scalefour North but I'm thinking I won't have finished the GER bufferstops as I had hoped.

All the best,

I've had a few emails asking about our CSB wire, just to clarify the size confusion, (and I will change the website accordingly), the wire sizes are in thousands of an inch, ('Gauge' is guitar speak) Very sorry for the confusion there being at least a dozen wire gauge tables around the world, all different. When I ordered samples I measured them in thou and metric so I knew what I was getting, it does have the actual metric size on the drum and is manufactured to a British Standard for spring steel wire.
Also from an email question, no it isn't just guitar string, ( I was using the guitar string notation which is often mentioned i.e. 10 gauge is 10thou). It is described as rust resistant, (I had some in neat liquid flux until the flux evaporated, the wire turned crusty black which scrapped off but it didn't seem to show rust).
I've been packaging the heavier wire and just to say that when the wire is off the drum it sits flat and at about a diameter of 25-30'' so not straight but when pulled through the fingers a few times it is easily straightened for use
Cutting the wire, DON'T use your best Xurons. Grip with pliers and bend the wire sharply back and forth till it fractures and comes apart.

All the best,

Dave Franks.

Does the wire solder easily, Dave? Thinking of AJ couplings...

James

Hi James, I've tried various fluxes and solder and as expected the wire doesn't solder very well, I would say just like normal springy wire. I made up a couple of AJ couplings from the 10 thou stuff and soldered the hook, it took some weight then the solder gave.

Hope that helps.

At long last the Great Eastern Railway bufferstop is at the moulding stage and should be available next weekend. Many people have been asking for this one and I've had so many things stopping me getting on with it.

Photo shows the masters held together with Blutac.

The stop comes with the rail built bufferbeam or the earlier 'long' timber beam with rounded ends as per many photos.

At last the GER bufferstops BS23 are available on the website, difficulties with the keyboard when updating the webpages only cured with a new keyboard yesterday.

post-10324-0-34737700-1498685237.jpg

Timber bufferbeam with rounded ends, some stops had a shorter beam with square ends which can be made by cutting the round ends off.

Brackets and stay bar as per photos.

Prices are £5.95 for the bufferstops or £27.50 for a box of five and £1.99 for wagon buffers.

Please check you have the latest webpage with the date 'June 17' on the Home page as it appears some are still using an older webpage link and may be missing out on new items.

As a supplier to Parkside Dundas and having known about the intended plans for the PD empire for a wee while now but sworn to secrecy I would like to wish the guys all the best for the future and thank them for having faith in Lanarkshire Models & Supplies. When we started the casting of wagon buffers back in June 2010, they took the then twelve types of buffers onto their trade stand at shows and eventually their website, LMS have grown somewhat since then and although PD don't stock all our products they sometimes sold more than us in a month especially the bufferstops, thanks guys.

Peco are not taking the LMS range of cast components and Richard, Andrew and I have agreed that LMS are well known enough now and could stand alone with the website and specialist show presence.

As far as my personal modelling is concerned, Parkside wagon kits have been the mainstay of the wagon stock on my own layout for the past thirty years with many more waiting to be built, where would the BR period modeller be without them.

Once again Andrew and Richard, all the best and thanks.

So from the end of July LMS products will only be available from the LMS website or specialist exhibitions like Scalefour North or the EMGS EXPO North and maybe the odd other shows we keep being invited to.
