Milfracombe

That sounds a fun place to visit!

Any crossing left overs from the Burton brewery system?

The seemed to be hundreds of them when you drove through B-o-T pre by-pass!

Keith

I didnt see any on the DEMU magical mystery tour of burton the other month but i did see a pub called 'the crossing' (or something like that)

I don't think the main lines had any LCs, only the brewery lines and their connexions.

Midland Railway Distance Diagram 26B shows loads of crossings but only on the company's lines. The Breweries' road crossings aren't shown.

North West of Wendover on the Halton Camp branch where it crosses the A413.

Long Marston on the Cheddington - Aylesbury branch did have the gates in situ but not sure of the current status.

There were until recently a couple of other crossings on the branch with parts of the gates remaining, not looked closely of late.

Various farm crossings on the Hemel Hempsted-Harpenden branch but some are not the original examples.

Had another wander around old maps & streetview :)

Several on the Burry Port & Gwyndraeth line - closed 1996 but still intact  for most of its length I believe

Pontyates

Near Pont-y-berem

Ungated crossing on the approach to Cwm-mawr - much more overgrown to the left!

Are there footpaths along some of the track? There seem to be pedestrian gates and muddy tracks.

There's certainly a footpath sign on the last crossing I linked and the 1:25000 map shows a footpath parallel to the line - it looks like it's claimed the trackbed at Pont-Henri as per this view so I suppose it's been allowed to use the route while out of use. Strangely, the rails at this crossing closer to Kidwelly seem to have vanished altogether...

It would be interesting to see how things are now, street view is a few years old.

There's an account of a walk along the route in 2013 here. https://stuartduckworth.wordpress.com/2013/05/27/a-walk-on-the-burry-port-and-gwendraeth-valley-railway-path/

A thread on here hints of possible preservation work but not much progress, can't find anything more and the project website seems dead

I see it says that some of the line was built on a former canal bed. That would explain the footpath alongside the line, its the former canal towpath.
