KIRLEY JUNCTION - Fertiliser at Clonmel

Inspired by a photograph in Jim Edgar's latest book, [Irish Railways Line By line Vol.2] I created this scene on my layout.

That looks fantastic.  How did you do the green fertiliser bags?

Cheers

Kieran

I am pleased that my photo inspired you. Nice work.

From what I can recall it was not unusual for the fert bags to be coloured, but for rail transport they were wrapped in an outer plastic film which was often white. As is apparent from the photo in the book, the wrapping at Rathmore was clear so we can see the bags through it. I have seen the clear wrapping in use several times.

Not all the fertiliser came from IFI, and the bags could be different depending on the manufacturer. However, yours are now clearly the same type as seen at Rathmore - prototypical as your scenes always are.

Can't stop - busy working on Volume 3.

Thanks Drem Junction for your permission to post your photograph. I am reliably informed the loads in your picture were ICI Cut Swart and Pasture Swart fertiliser on the pallets. Delighted to see you posting Jim and maybe we will see see some pictures of your Loughrea branch line soon, whenever you finish Irish Railways Line By line Vol.3?

KIRLEY JUNCTION - Magnesite Wagons

These wagons from IRM took a long, long time coming but they were eventually delivered on Friday.  The detail on these wagons is so good I had to be extra careful in handling them in case I did damage.  First run out on Kirley Junction.

KIRLEY JUNCTION - CIE 20' Flat Wagons.

I had gathered 20' flats from Provincial Wagons and IFM but never seemed to have enough for my containers and other loads.  Owen O'Neill from 3D Printing, Cork offered to to design and print some.

The buffers and hooks came separate and you also had to add wheels, coupling hooks and paint them.

SL&NC Railway

I'm on a bit of a SLNC's kick at the moment with two SL&NCR Tri-Composite Coachs No.10 & 11 adapted from Ratio MR coach kits plus 3 Cattle Wagons from Provincial Wagons.

Had to get the GNRI to provide the engine power.

SLNC Rolling Stock

SLNC Open Wagon

Thanks to Ernie’s wonderful photo archive I got a glimpse of an open wagon with these heavy supports on the outside of the body.

Gareth Brennan donated a Cambrian kit which I adapted to look like the SLNC’s one.
