Rather more in-period than your German Car, would be some Buffs, though they don't look that overlarge to me:

Would they be happy sitting in the long grass, gently rusting ?

If you used chocolate buttons as dung you could shock layout viewers by occasionally eating one

...and 5 minutes later there'd be none left !

"Oi !! This in not Wonka Railways, y'know!"

Great progress and particularly like the idea of the gateway. Rather more in-period than your German Car, would be some Buffs, though they don't look that overlarge to me:

doesn't the Buff at the front look like John Cleese?

Many years ago (late 1950s ?) Norman Clarke of Bloxwich Walsall made a layout on/in a hollow door, with a marching military band emerging from an underpass travelling the length of the display on a moving roadway, with  accompanying military sound,  I believe it was "based on London" . it may have made the model press but I can't find it at the moment.

The veranda roof is all rust as I want to try the 'salt' method.

Edit : Apologies for the 2nd photo being a bit blurred

A convincing start there Stubby.  Did you use two varieties of diluted dung for proper authenticity on those browns?
