RMweb Gold russ p Posted February 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2017 Not a lot to go on with this photo, but a nice image of a D16. IMG_0953.jpg Could this be Melton aswell?
LNERGE
Could this be Melton aswell? St Ives for sure. The laying down point handle is for the coal drops line.
jonny777
My immediate thought was this might be Stamford, but that would be some way away from the usual E Anglian haunts.

jonny777
And, using what little logic I possess, this could be the outskirts of Braintree? The smokebox number is difficult to read but looks like 67217.

RMweb Premium DLT Posted February 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) Both look like the Kent and East Sussex Railway to me; one of Colonel Stephen's finest and happily still with us. I'm not sure but I think the first one is Bodiam, and the second one Northiam Thanks for sharing all these fascinating pictures. Dave. jonny777
Does anyone recognise this location? I have tried to read the name on the signalbox but cannot quite make it out.
LNERGE
Elsenham Edit to add.. I think this location had/has the longest level crossing gates certainly on the Eastern Region. The Liverpool St and Cambridge control phone circuits met here. There was a coupling unit to link the two circuits. I know that because it was the only thing i got from this box when it closed.. RMweb Gold 5BarVT Posted February 6, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 6, 2017 Could it be Elsenham? Consistent with what I can read of the box name, and not inconsistent with the road layout.

jonny777
Thanks very much. I would never have found it from my interpretation of the s/box name, which I thought ended 'OUGH'.
LNERGE
Another box on the long list of boxes i've plundered, though on this occasion i was merely assisting others to get bits for their railway. The bulk of the recoveries went to the Colne Valley Railway.

jonny777
Goodness me, so it is. The cameraman must have been standing in a position which completely obscures all the sidings and signalling at the far end of the station. I like the ground frame for the crossover though; very civilised. Thanks very much for the id.
