RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted February 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2017 Goodness me, so it is. The cameraman must have been standing in a position which completely obscures all the sidings and signalling at the far end of the station. I like the ground frame for the crossover though; very civilised. Thanks very much for the id. https://goo.gl/maps/AJdSHLnRTZD2
jonny777
My theory is that the shed interior pictured here is West Hartlepool. Could someone more familiar with the location either confirm or deny this please?
Shadow
That looks more like a road off a turntable ( it's at an angle to the back wall ). From the images of West Hartlepool on the net it looks more like a straight through shed. North Blyth? https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=tablet-android-pega&biw=960&bih=600&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=_orwWNiNDerZgAa3krTADQ&q=north+blyth+engine+shed&oq=north+blyth+engine+shed&gs_l=mobile-gws-img.3..0.36558.39087.0.40060.9.9.0.0.0.0.119.751.6j3.9.0....0...1c.1j4.64.mobile-gws-img..0.2.220...0i13k1.IYX4B05LGk0#imgrc=f8tJ97ce3pNesM: Edited April 14, 2017 by Shadow

It could be Thornaby as I well member being shown around by a member of staff after my father slipped the foreman a tenner - a lot of money in those days. A great father, my dad. Mum wasn't too impressed though! Chris Turnbull

Shadow
Could be Selby. 63440 was there at one time. http://www.railuk.info/steam/getsteam.php?row_id=16981 And it had a turntable. http://www.railwayarchitecture.org.uk/Location/Selby/Selby%20Web%20Images/selby-engine-shed-ground-pl.jpg
The Border Reiver
I agree. West Hartlepool did not have a roundhouse as this photograph of the outside shows. 670829 West Hartlepool 63407, 90677 and 90254 (2).jpg It could be Thornaby as I well member being shown around by a member of staff after my father slipped the foreman a tenner - a lot of money in those days. A great father, my dad. Mum wasn't too impressed though! Chris Turnbull West Hartlepool had two shed buildings some distance apart; a straight shed and a roundhouse. 63440 final shed was West Hartlepool and in this photo taken in the roundhouse ,the windows in the background match the ones in post 677. https://www.railscot.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=27610

18B
It is Clay Cross, the photographer is standing on the bridge on Station (New) Road, North Wingfield. The 58 is making for the loops opposite Avenue coking plant. The small shed to the left is still visible on Google Earth. It's actually most probably headed for Oxcroft
18B
I had assumed most of the sidings would have become redundant by now, which shows how much I know. The only change that I can see is the turnout into the extreme left hand loop has been moved about 100 back, to beyond the crossover with the single slip. That was done so a train could be started from the siding on the left.
18B
Phew! But before speculation gets out of hand, here comes the 31 to take them home. Scan-151015-0001.jpg the inspection saloon in on the one line that was left in Avenue Sidings, just north of Clay Cross junction, the 31 has ran round the saloon after bringing it onto the siding from the North, or is departing north to run round and take it south.............. 18B
Stumped again. This is a very small depot. I wondered if the loco had misbehaved and was about to enter the 37 Correction Facility? Help please... this depot is always a little puzzling, for its quite a substancial depot ans was built I believe in the short period of Trainload Freight South West...................? jonny777
This scan is bugging me. The loco shed looks similar to the one at Loch Tay, so I am guessing at somewhere on the Callander & Oban, but I can't find a track layout to fit. I'm sure there are folk who know the area fcar better than I do.
RMweb Premium DLT Posted June 17, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) I think its Aberfeldy, Highland Railway. Check this link: http://www.ambaile.org.uk/detail/en/26743/1/EN26743-aberfeldy-station-showing-goods-and.htm Fourth picture down on this page: https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/archive/search.htm?subtype=5&company=TRACKWORK%20and%20INFRASTRUCTURE Various photos come up in a Google Image search. jonny777
Thanks Dave. Aberfeldy it is; and also explains why I did not find anything on the Callander & Oban maps.

The platform lamp matches the ones that were on Callander Station and there is an engine shed and water tower in the distance which matches Loch Tay shed on the Killin Branch. The photo is recent (comparatively speaking) with the upper quadrant starter signal. I thought perhaps Connel Ferry but my shed pictures and Directory of British Engine Sheds Part 2 tells me that there was no shed there. And with both signals pulled off (one in the distance) was it a double track route? All in all a bit of a mystery
RMweb Premium DLT Posted June 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 18, 2017 And with both signals pulled off (one in the distance) was it a double track route? All in all a bit of a mystery There is a signalbox diagram of Aberfeldy here: https://www.signalbox.org/diagrams.php?id=1043 that shows that the signalbox could be open or closed. Would "all signals off" indicate that the box was closed? Cheers, Dave.
RMweb Gold 5BarVT Posted June 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 18, 2017 Yes. We put in an arrangement just like that between Dunragit and Stranraer 5 years or so ago. Paul.
Mark Saunders
Bardon Mill and Norton East are two boxes that are rarely open and when closed leave all the signals pulled off! Norton East leaves the route set for trains between Stockton and Billingham! Mark Saunders
jonny777
Q6s standing in the rain. 63363 and 63401 are at a shed in NE England, but could it be West Hartlepool, Sunderland South Dock, or Blyth? Or somewhere that I have yet to think of?

pH
I would say Tyne Dock, going by these pictures from Railscot: https://www.railscot.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=49821 https://www.railscot.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=49801 https://www.railscot.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=29614
