RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted June 29, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2017 Put the whole layout up tonight, the main reason was to measure up for a curtain but I also wanted to see how the hillside and fence looked, quite good as it happens... And some pretty shots.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 30, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 30, 2017 Back to the mundane tonight, the hillside behind the cottage and up to the coal depots has been grassed, this time a little shorter and hopefully greener than the main hill. I've also stated on the fence behind the coal depots, the posts and gateposts are in. The gate will hang from the right hand post, opening towards the camera, that is presuming it was the same then as it is now, the gate and posts might change over the years but the orientation rarely does.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted July 1, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2017 Main job tonight was to clear up last night's mess, static grass all over the yard! Then I painted the yard surface, the chinchilla dust is far too bright so it was given a wash of browny black, it looks a lot better now.
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted July 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2017 Use dead chinchilla's in future, they are a lot less bright. Mike.
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted July 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2017 It's really coming to life now Paul. Apart from the modelling itself I find the design very inspirational. Visually there is something very effective and attractive about a lengthy row of buildings behind a goods train, and the hillside in front really sets it off. Must try out some of that Chinchilla dust, it seems very effective (and if I put it on the modelling shelf next to the baby powder and the latex gloves it should draw some interesting reactions from visitors). RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 3, 2017 Moving up the road and around the back there's a gate at the top of the hill, there's still one there now although it's made of steel and quite a bit longer. This one is from an NER drawing.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 4, 2017 Nothing exiting on the layout to show tonight, just glue and filler drying, so it was off to the bench to add horns to a few more sheep and I thought I'd do a step by step. I'm using Model Scene sheep, they seem to be the best for representing moor top Swaledales, even the colour of the plastic is right. The first job is to remove mould lines and then to cut a groove across the back of it's head. The horns are bent up from .45mm brass wire. Glued into the groove with the horns curling sort of around the ears. The head repainted black and the distinctive white nose added together with a bit of white on the legs and the horns painted a similar colour to the body. Finally a red identification mark on it's shoulders.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 4, 2017 Leave the horns gold coloured, adds a bit of bling.

jwealleans
Don't worry about it. Sheep will eat anything.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 5, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 5, 2017 Mice eat layouts (slowly). I imagine sheep could get the job done a lot quicker.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted July 15, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2017 Right, time for an update, work has been progressing slowly, we were down in Stafford with Felton Lane last weekend and with that and organising a wedding there's not a lot of spare time at the moment. The hill side at the back and end of board 1 has been grassed and the banking at the back of boards 1 and 2 has been built up, this is a lot closer in than it should be but 4' wide boards would be a bit much. the road and goods yard surface has been covered with chinchilla dust.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 27, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2017 Managed to get the whole layout up tonight and fitted the curtain, it might be going to EM North unfinished but it's going to be presentable!

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 28, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2017 Is that curtain from left over bridesmaid's dress material ? Unfortunately crimson lake and Saxony green were outlawed fairly early on in the planning... the bridesmaid's dress is currently in Australia and cost significantly more than the layout curtain. RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted August 5, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 5, 2017 Very nice Paul but... Shouldn't you be writing a speech and ordering flowers for the bridesmaids or something? You'll be getting into trouble!
