I've identified the nearest 68 as 68023 Achilles. I'm unsure about the other one.

Thank you!  I don't think I walked round to see what the other one was.  I suspect I had just come out of The Tap!  Picture was taken at 1936 on 22 September 2021.

It seems from info on other forums that some 68+Mk5 sets are being redeployed to a few south Transpennine services (Cleethorpes/Sheffield/Manchester) from later this year. There's already been training with a light engine 68 on the Hope Valley.

Correct…I’m not sure of dates or how many each day etc, but light loco training runs have taken place to Cleethorpes, and a full set went recently. If proof was ever needed, you can see the sea in this pic!

Reported elsewhere as two diagrams from the May 2022 timetable change, or soon after, and a further two diagrams from the December 2022 timetable change.

I've seen 10 of the 14 TransPennine Express Class 68s. My aim is to get photos of all of them. So far, I have recorded:

68020 Reliance

68021 Tireless

68022 Resolution

68023 Achilles

68024 Centaur

68025 Superb

68029 Courageous

68030 Black Douglas

68031 Felix

68032 Destroyer

I have just to catch:

68019 Brutus

68026 Enterprise

68027 Splendid

68028 Lord President

(Note: TPX have 13 sets of mark 5 coaches to make Nova 3. That means they have one 68 spare in case one breaks down)

68023 was le through Scunthorpe eastbound around 1300 on Wednesday 02 March.

Was my first 68.

I also saw 68021 on the Scarborough service at York. There eas one other behind a 37 in a south bay at York.

Out of interest, with all the other names, "Felix"???

'Achilles' at Doncaster last Wednesday as I was waiting for my train. Sun in an unfavourable position. It was working a Cleethorpes-Manchester empties, I think another training run.

Those things are loud though. When it pulled out, there was an LNER train in the platform which blocked my view, but hardly blocked the sound out at all!

Here's 68007 on Monday night, linked from my Flickr.

68007 1Z18 Westbury

68007 'Valiant' sits in platform 1 at Westbury setting down passengers on the final leg of 'The Easter Highlander' charter, a 4 day rail cruise from Eastleigh to Scotland and back. Running as 1Z18 from Dumbarton Central back to Eastleigh, this is 499 miles into the 555 mile trip. Not bad for a phone shot.

Another training run on the South TPE route last Friday, 68022 arriving in Sheffield. EMR London train in platform 8 and the refurbished Park Hill Flats in the background.

Looking forward to trying the Mk5s in the Hope Valley, and hoping the suspension on the coaches won't be as niggly jiggly as the last time I rode them on the Scarborough line.

Today the 6K97 Toton to Crewe engineer's produced a 'Cat', 68017 running light from Crewe to Toton, missing out Bescot as is usual. I saw it in nice evening light near Castle Donington:

Thanks,
