A ‘floater’ last week, 2/3rds of a wet runway used before landing keeps you awake.

Did you really see this, or was it just an Ilyushin ?

Something unusual found on Flight Radar...

80-year old DC3's still being used for high-tech exploration (with a few modifications)

Here's the most recent surveying flight, flying backwards and forwards along the Cornish coast.

Old tin (in the air) looking for new tin (under the ground) perhaps?

Trip to the local airfield yesterday to see this lot. A twelfth one (in pieces) is just out of shot to the right.

Bit surprised to see N3200 with a drip tray underneath - it doesn't have an engine fitted at present!

I thought that the prop shaft was part of the engine so without an engine there is nowhere to hang the prop.  I notice that the exhaust is missing though.

They may have jury rigged a prop bracket in the bay, nothing looks worse than a Spitfire with no prop on display :D

There's something in there, wrapped up in a clear bin bag looking at someone else's photos, but there's daylight where there shouldn't be. So possibly some sort of jig to hold the prop in place.

The gearbox is an integral part of the engine, it cannot be separated and be mounted inside the engine nacelle.  The whole engine, gearbox and propeller are mounted on the anti- vibration engine mounts which are attached to the airframe.

It looked from those drawings that the gearbox itself splits (they’d have trouble actually making that casting otherwise) and I was speculating they may have used the front half of the gearbox which appears to have bearings for the prop shaft within “jury rigged” just to attach a prop for show.

The engine would not have been partially disassembled just for show.  The engine is tested and released by the overhaul company, any partial disassembly would invalidate the warranty and CAA release.

The simplest answer is that there is an engine installed (hence the drip tray) but that the exhaust stubs have been removed, or not yet installed.

Or maybe they did use Blu Tack

I flew on 3 Carvairs; they had a passenger cabin at the rear with approx 25 seats.  On one flight the public address failed and the stewardess had to come into the cabin and do a little recitation for the safety briefing.  It was bit embarrasing with her standing a couple of feet from me.
