For those who like Aircraft pictures

Watching the "Airliners Live" Thursday evening stream on YouTube from Vancouver (YVR) last night , I was rather intrigued to see one of the vehicles used for transporting Floatplanes around there.......

Must be interesting to drive one of those without a plane onboard and I wonder what they do with all the back-ends of those pick-up trucks.......?

On our trip to East Kirkby last week, the opportunity arose for a then and now comparison. A big thank you to the good people there for allowing it to happen as I needed to be the "wrong" side of the barriers and they arranged for me to get there.

The first photo was taken at RAF Muharraq in 1965. The second was last Thursday. It is the same aircraft and the same "little boy" under the wing.

That’s amazing to think of the years apart and for it still to be possible to take the same picture 57 years later. Great memories for you.

I have a similar pair of pictures. As a little boy of 10 I visited RAF St Mawgan for a school trip and we looked around and had a photo with Nimrod MR2 XW231. Fast forward to 2009, now an Aircraft Engineer in the RAF I found myself working on Nimrod XW231 at RAF Kinloss and I had the same photo taken. A mere 20 years had passed in my case but still amazing. Even better was that XW231 was retired to Manchester airport viewing area (where I was born) and is still there now.

Great photo's @t-b-g, what was the Lancaster being used for at the time of the first photo, interesting colour scheme?

There's a history of the aircraft here - it looks like the photo was taken during her journey back from Sidney to the UK in 1965. Presumably the colour scheme is the one applied by the  French with national markings painted out and civilian registration added?

The colour scheme was indeed the last one she carried doing her maritime role except for the civilian registration. My dad was an RAF Engineer and was involved with the servicing and refuelling on the journey. There is a small paperback book, which tells the story of the aircraft that has a photo of my dad in there.  He was also in charge of it at Scampton for a couple of years.

There were a couple of unusual bits of "nose art" which were commercial sponsorship markings from companies that helped fund the flight from Australia.

The last time I was at St Mawgan we went up in a Shackleton…..tail dragger to 👍

Now we only live an hour away from Newquay Airport (St Mawgan) and I’ve yet to visit the museum, I keep saying we will but it’s never a priority.

Judging from the large concrete blocks holding them down they're not ready for take off!

My immediate thought when I looked at the photo was that they were in a rough area and someone had nicked the wheels!

All the best

Part of the Carolinas Aviation Museum Collection, they have been temporarily relocated from another area of the airport.  The flickr caption has all the details.

Over a local park on Saturday we were treated to a Spitfire flying round a helicopter, kept going backwards and forwards for 30 mins or so. The Spit was buzzing the helicopter and diving round what looked, from the ground, to be pretty close, must have been filming something.

I suspect that the weight/length of the towbar balances the weight of the cab of the truckless  truck.

Living only a few miles from the Battle of Britain memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, we sometimes have perhaps 20 fly-pasts a day. The helicopter is indeed used for filming; they used to use a DH Dove, but we haven't seen that one for a while. There are also several twin-cockpit Spitfires, which also serve as filming platforms, as conveying (very well-heeled) passengers. The last time I looked, it was somewhere north of £2000 for a flight out of Headcorn.

Curious aviation activity near Stonehenge at sunset today.

Two TV helicopters

https://www.flightradar24.com/GTVHD/2c3f30ec

and

https://www.flightradar24.com/GINTV/2c3f48e2

Perhaps taking mid-summer sunset pics a few days early to beat the rush.

Both for Arena TV. Or were, maybe with a new operator, now that Arena has gone bust.

Do not forget the exporting of illegal migrants was supposed to leave from Boscombe Down yesterday as well.

Possibly aerial news coverage.

Thanks, hadn't realised that was where the flight would have been from.

Pic here shows the aircraft is a 767 (EC-LZO)

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/european-judges-block-deportations-to-rwanda-wfc9xwfql

The operator is "Privilege Style", with something of a controversial history

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privilege_Style#Controversies

FlightRadar24 has the flight in on 14 Jun 2022, but listed as Dusseldorf (DUS) to Upavon (UPV)  -  not Boscombe Down.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ec-lzo

Which made me smile, as landing a 767 at Upavon (not Boscombe Down) would be something very special!

The biggest I know of at Upavon is a RAF Hercules.

Coincidentally today SKY News had several aerial views of the aircraft sitting at the airport doing all.
