J - I have bought several of your TOPS period figures (superb), but I would still like to make the point that it would be really beneficial to have a few more scanned wearing the short Hi-Vis bib that dominated the time from the late 1960's (perhaps early 1970's in reality) through to the mid 1980's, and shunters without cloth caps or bump hats, and drivers/guards/signallers without ties and hats. Some of your output has been easily modified but the rest I have not bought because of the surgery needed (which I could much more cheaply do to a Bachmann figure or similar).

Perhaps this sounds very niche, but the increasing number of BR Blue layouts suggests less so.

Morning Mike, thanks for the feedback, figures of that period are on my radar when I get the opportunity and I know a few folk now with the right kit and the right idea!

Not wishing to try to force a rush, I've got plenty to be working on at the moment, but will that include people scanned at shows as loco crew etc? I was 'done' at Warley the other year and would love to be able to point people to where they could buy a miniature 'me'! Of course, I will be ordering a few more eventually as I have the reference, but it's nice to be available!

Cheers

J

Thanks for the suggestion and it wouldn't be too hard to implement.  I'll have a look at the point I go through the back catalogue of scans

Any hopes of the Caledonian/Stevens signal finial scanned at Bristol, 2017  :-)

Jim.

Morning Jim! Yes good point :) and I have a few others on file including LSWR scanned sometime in 2016 and L&Y.  And there are more drain pipe fittings, er, in the pipeline :)  and platform lamps are back on the agenda as they now print 5 times faster than on my old machines, making them viable as a stock item!

Alan,

I would like to include one of my great-grandfather's in a vignette on my layout. How do I get one of your reenactors (about 44 yrs old, RE Captain, slim, 5'10") to pose as though they have fallen of a motorbike at a dock at Houplines, France in 1917? I suspect the compound fracture of the thigh bone will dissuade most actors and I wouldn't be able to afford a commision with the motorbike, all the bone prosthetics, fake blood and torn uniform. Damn, I will have to cut up some of your other figures.

Cheers,

Chris

I'll see what I can do next time I'm with Jack Chris! One point, as I'd like to label the figures correctly - would Sappers be the best term to describe the RE men that worked the line?

Alan,

Sapper is the RE rank equivalent of Private/Gunner/Trooper/Signaller/Rifleman/Guardsman of other Corps and Regiments. I imagine, if the RE is anything like the RAE, all RE Other Ranks (Sappers to Staff Sergeant and no doubt their Warrant Officers and many officers) would very proudly collectively call themselves Sappers.

I believe that positions like Station Master were held by Warrant Officers, whilst mainline broad gauge Drivers would generally be Corporals or Sergeants, with Sapper or Lance Corporal Fireman. On the light Railways I imagine most of the Drivers were Lance Corporals, Corporals and an occasional Sergeants, with again Sappers and Lance Corporal Fireman on the steam engines.

My father is a former Deputy Director of the RACT here in Australia, when he graduated from officer training to the RAE, he did initital specialist railway operations and management training with the NSW Railways and then served in our last army railway unit, I will have a chat to him about it.

Keep up the great work.

Cheers,

Chris

Out of interest, how long did that style of uniform last after WW1? I am looking for 4mm military figures that would suit the late 1930's.

The new battledress, blouson instead of tunic and gaiters instead of puttees, came in in 1938 I believe.

There's probably a hidden market for late 60's early 70's long haired, flared trousered, platform heel booted blokes  and mini skirted "liver bird" type girls out there.  I could do with  fair few to populate my trains and platforms.  As someone commented on your website though, we're all rather better fed today than in days gone by and as a result a far bit chubbier in general.   Hopefully you can find some more slender models to be convincing for the era.  Sadly I needn't apply as there's a bit too much of me around the middle to qualify as your average 1970's size. (unless you're looking to do a range of world of sport saturday tea time wrestlers that is!

The epitome of 70's athleticism!

and for present day, 90% of the passenger figures need to be walking along with a mobile phone at their ear.

(haven't Peco beaten you to it with cricketers, or did you do the scanning for them?)

My father was in the Royal Engineers in 1947-49 and at nearly 90 now he still gets the RE Regiment Magazine, which is called "The Sapper".

Thanks for that - so WW2 figures should generally work for 1939 then. Much appreciated.

They have got the team yes and years ago we discussed scanning, but I didn't hear anything back.  From the look of them they have been sculpted.

NEW FIGURE RELEASES

With big thanks to my summer intern Jasmin, I'm happy to (finally!) announce the release of 70 new figures to the range.  These will be followed by a second release in August of other figures and components which have been on file for some months.

These figures have been created with special thanks to Jack Shaw (GCR), Andrew Hardy (KESR), Jamie Green (SVR), Andrew Campbell, Gordon Gravett and John Cook.

Con o sin caballo?

Sin caballo. I think I was told that the available scanning facilities would not be big enough to deal with a horse the size of Bill, and anyway - patient soul that he is at the age of 23 - I'm not entirely sure he'd be wanting to stand stock-still for long enough to enable a clean scan.

I feel you've misnamed the workmen figures,.....

Shouldn't this be in the "Does exactly what it says on the tin" thread?
