Haven't quite got the hang of my new phone camera - it appears wonky.. but is isn't!

And .. after many years my Judith Edge 16" Hunslet chassis now runs!

Well you can't see the difference but the Fowler now has sound fitted (as has a DJH 8F. Two new speakers required though (the ones used have been in the "used" box for ages.. so will be confined to the "bin" box when new ones arrive.

Now  that Dave Franks has done some cast bendy tank vents I can fit some of those to the Fowler as well... Brilliant!

After spending a small fortune installing faux hickory flooring I thought I'd vanquished the carpet foes for good until SWMBO threw down a huge rug! Alas I should have known better having previous encounters with women and soft furnishings.

well it would have been done sooner BUT I found some more Banana Vans to put couplings on...

Never mind the couplings, it's the steam pipes you need on banana vans!!! Most important.

  • Barry O changed the title to Baz's bodging and bashing ...now O gauge signals
  • RMweb Premium

I did say that I would build a signal for the new Leeds MRS CIO O gauge layout. Based on Plymouth Friary Shed it needs a  two doll signal...

Well today  I dug out the signal from our old layout Regis Bay and the parts for the new signal..

I might start this tomorrow as I have finished off the latest batch of wagons...

So I don't need any more wagons.. I know but I still get tempted so..

Parkside 21T and 24.5T mineral wagons with some "minimalist" weathering.

Next up a Dapol 16T mineral and a Ratio Coke wagon... a really old kit.

1104017810_ewoparksideexLMvans.JPG.720a4ee149880afe538defcbb71e49f0.JPG

And two Cambrian 12T unfitted goods vans (an ex Midland design and an ex LMS design)  These are not the best kits in the world.

and finally.. my rivetted side Fowler conversion.. finally finished bar the fitting of DG  couplings.

Many, many moons ago I scratchbuilt a couple of wagons. Two ex LMS Soda Ash Opens

476046670_twoexLMSSodaAshwagonsnormal.JPG.e58d07e2fb9e38d5fc4b37dc4c880137.JPG

They are different as one is an older version of the wagon (note the brake systems are different)

451252278_twoexLMSSodaAshwagonsnormalotherside.JPG.10f6101bf6bf645fccab67607a2475ed.JPG

I need to fix the tarpaulin rail bars and refit the Tarpaulin bars.

2135629770_twoexLMSSodaAshwagonsends.JPG.b0231421b594ca6f8ec07e21b53944a9.JPG

(and then I noticed one of the two is actually... compensated!)

1725199391_UnderneatholderexLMSSodaAshwagon.JPG.40a4574fa697b377d914d3467c2c221c.JPG

This is the fixed chassis one  ..weren't Kenline castings wonderful? I have found some more so I may build a few more of these.. and now you can get transfers for them.. well it would be a shame not to build them.. but I will probably use the later variant.

Those are a bit different.   Remind me of the GWR Provender wagon.

Where did they work?  LMS, obviously, but that's about as specific our estimates to the end of this pandemic.

I built these for use on Hartford Junction (where the WCML had a link to ICI works and a link to the CLC. These should have tarpaulin sheet rods (I will replace the lost ones) and were replaced by Presflos ( I have three Hornby Dublo Presflos in ICI livery).

The real wagons had a sign which said

"RETURN EMPTY TO PENDLETON (BRINDLE HEATH)."  which is in the Manchester area

I.H. of LMS Wagons Vol.1 by Essery has ex-works views showing D1951 and D2022 wagons labelled as 'For soda ash traffic. To work between Winnington and St Helens only' and 'For soda ash. Fleetwood to Silvertown' respectively.  So Northwich soda ash for glass manufacture at Pilkingtons etc. Silvertown was presumably the caustic soda/soda crystals plant in E London.  Not sure what the purpose of the later (1965) branding for Brindle Heath was.

I've got a couple of brown Airfix Presflos brown, lettered "BULK SALT", that were supposed to run on Hartford. They don't really belong in Mid-Cornwall - are they any use to you?

Yes they would be of use St Enodoc.

And talking of wagons I have been weathering some purchased vans down. All arrived coated in gloss varnish..

Loads!

Yes it is nice to see loaded wagons. For reasons best known to others I have a fair few Lowmacs and potential vehicle carrying wagons. Time to get some loads on them.

I happened across an Oxford "Fowler Plough"  for sale. It looked interesting (it should be used between a pair of Ploughing Traction engines which I haven't got .. so .. let us make it into a load.

1175929395_PloughonLowmac3qtrfront.JPG.251da192e7bb888a0c2464022cec114b.JPG

Some plasticard "baulks" to chock it in place, some of "her indoors " best thread and some PVA.. et voila!

Love the roping Barry.
I'm going to be a prat and suggest that, unless this is static in a goods yard, prior to being unloaded, this is such an expensive piece of kit, Fowlers would have covered it in a company tarpaulin. If this is part of a farm 'removal train', it would have an unmarked tarp. The plough shares would be dull metal, if they hadn't ben used or greased if this is a removal.
I'll now get my coat.
