AlfaZagato
Seeing the Hemsworth wagon makes me think. I wonder how many pop culture references could be obliquely made via actual PO wagons?

Baz What makes it worse is, that I'd got Manchester collieries as well as Astley and Tyldesly Collieries wagons. Sod it, this happened in BR days! I have certain PO wagons that will never get painted over. Cambrian did a Manchester Collieries wagon in black with MC on it. for some reason I love that wagon, it's never getting repainted. RMweb Premium Barry O Posted November 7, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 7, 2021 I bought a Bachmann Covhop second hand recently. It had been Coated in a thick, lumpy brown goo. I have got a lot of this off and today I have been adding a bit of weathering and a view from the top.. Baz
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted December 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2021 Taken ages to sort out the build of a Stanier LMS Buffet Car. RMweb Premium Barry O Posted December 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2021 Finishing wiring up some control panels and then finding my roof rib tape.. then a genteel threat from her indoors helped. Now doing a "quick " conversion of two Hornby Stanier FK into SK using 247 sides and the swear box (sharp scalpel + thumb = pain and blood ..ouch!) Baz In reality I just decided "this has to be finished"...

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted December 28, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2021 So as a break from building "complete " coaches I have started to build some "conversions". I had tow Hornby Stanier Period III First Class Corridor Coaches.. I have loads of Stanier First Class coaches so.. with 2 of my stash of sets of coach sides ready time for a "quick" conversion.. So after removing the bodies for the chassis a bit of scalpel work was required . I used a new scalpel blade to score along the top edge and ends of the coaches. The sides then come out and I filed the ends back a bit so that the replacement sides sit in the right place for the gutter line I then added the door grab handles and painted the sides. I lined them (using Tamiya acrylic paint in my trusty bow pen) followed by adding numbers and also door "T" handles. I added some square plasticard at the top edge of the coach to fasten to the Coach internal roof line. I used repurposed Bachmann box plastic for the windows held in place using "Clear". Using super glue I attached the sides to the ends. Then super glued additional locating strips to the top of the sides then glued these to the roof internals using plastic weld. It looks like this. and to prove there are two Now the time consuming buts.. interior seats, corridor sides, toilet etc and a change of roof ventilators.. A job for tomorrow perhaps? RMweb Gold farren Posted December 28, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2021 I been thinking of doing the same with a couple of my 1st class coaches I have. the full kits are nice but the weight of a 6-8 coach train is pushing it for Bachmann 4-6-0’s. And above 8 starts to tell on the princess if the 12 wheelers are involved.
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted December 28, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2021 I use Bachman coach bogies on my kits now.. they run a lot more freely than kit built ones.. Baz
RMweb Gold farren Posted December 28, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2021 Oh yes all my 8 wheeler Comet kits are fitted with those. Just makes life easier. The Bachmann Jub’s pat’s are just gutless, I have 8 or 9 all pretty much the same.
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted December 28, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) I thought you were going to do some cut and shuts to make the TKs not just bung on some etched sides. Here are two of my latest cutting and shutting, both LNER dia 275 coaches from Hornby Railroad shorties. E9195E after rebuilding to a RB. E9196E in as built condition, as a Restaurant Buffet. It was not rebuilt. Both worked on trans Pennine services at some point in the 1960s so worth adding to my collection of possible suitable coaches for my fictitious Sheffield Exchange layout. Still a lot to do to each coach but the hard work of sorting out the jigsaw has been completed. Edited December 28, 2021 by Clive Mortimore
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted December 28, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) Hi Baz The above were made from Hornby LNER Railroad coaches I have bashed some of their LMS ones into other stuff. A SK (I model post 1956) from their so called CK. Just a bit of shuffling the windows about. The roof is correct for a period III TK (SK). Needs LMS bogies, as do the rest of this group. A 1939 Coronation Scot SO from CK bits. A CO+SO Excursion Articulated pair, the basis for these were the BTK as the window spacing works out right for these but not the BTK. A Period III RC again luck was on my side as the main dinning area window spacing matches the CK A BSK. Their BTK compartments have been squashed up to match the interior of the LNER BCK, by using windows form the CK to get the longer compartments and reducing the van end the coach is correct. This is the same diagram as the Airfix/Dapol BTK and the newer Hornby one. This one will be one of the few without duckets that were built for the Sunny South Express trains to Hastings. I understand they did sometimes appear on general service trains. Again the roof is correct for a Period III BTK. Why didn't they make it right in the first place?
