Grimsby, Immingham and surrounding area

Recommended Posts

Interesting start to day. Challenged by Revenue Protection when attempting to see usual training run class 68

Usually passes 07:35 ex Grimsby to Manchester. This was promptly cancelled at 07:34 and then ran ECS a few minutes later.

Managed an hour at lunchtime today on Barnetby. Really need to get vegetation sorted?

Nothing really out of ordinary I’m afraid. Class 70 crept up on me slightly unexpectedly.

No idea why wagon was lurking in yard.

Big day here as first day CT scanning for Lung Health Check. As Dr have been wanting this locally for nearly 5 years.

Scanner in Immingham so toddled over via Brocklesby.

Pretty much usual stuff though one new livery (to me anyway)

Entrance to that signalbox was the most unusual I've ever seen.  As  can be seen from the windows the platform has been built up around the box.  So you went down from the platform and  entered the building through the locking room door at the level of the surrouning land, only to go back up a flight of indoor stairs at the top of which was a horizontal trap door!

You really do need nerves of steel to drive that route.  The train seen here is coming off the curve onto the wrong line for a short distance and is about to use a facing crossover behind the camera to get onto the line see on the right.   But given the way the timetable works, like or not there also another train coming the other way at speed on the same straight line, which will turn off onto the line seen behind the box to run the other way on the curve.  Head-on closing speed must be getting up towards 100 mph and the locos are sometimes only yards apart when both suddenly turn onto the non-conflicting track.

Must be reasonably easy to see the lie of the points ahead though, at least in daylight? Night could be a different matter.

just found this on YouTube, best bits for me are seeing D3158 (Blackstone/BTH, (not GEC)) at 15:40 and 18:00, Gloucester DMU at 28:05, shunting by tractor at 35:30, and seeing the tractor labelled 'British Rail ' at 37:50 and the British Titanium Ruston at 46:15.

Paul.

Auto correct put Euston instead of Ruston.

Other two are Track Recording Vehicle Barnetby 7/90 & 08:665 at Woad Lane Crossing (only second time ever saw locomotive here)
