I know there's been very recent discussion about Aussie hamburger ingredients, but a search fails to find it.

Visited Paul's in Sylvania. Great burger, but cash only, though they do have an in-store ATM.

I'm not sure who runs it now but there is a takeaway shop on The Grand Parade in Monterey on Botany Bay just over the road from the beach that was run by a Nepalese couple I think. Anyway, they'd do the fish and chips and so on but if anyone wanted a hamburger they'd go out the back and summon this ancient Greek(?) guy. I guess he was a relic from the days of the great Australian Hamburger, maybe he owned the shop originally and they kept him on for the hamburgers, who knows but  they bowed to his greater skills.

He'd come out and do the hamburger with the lot exactly like it was still 1975, beetroot, pineapple, bacon and egg and proper sliced iceberg lettuce, none of that fancy endive or whatever Bok Choy they put on elsewhere. And still it only cost $7.00 and this was at least 2017 when I visited it last.

I actually had a maggie steal my pie from right under my nose recently. I grabbed it back, and kept it even closer to my chest after that. 😆

Are there any creatures in the locality that might find the radioactive source container attractive enough to ingest or carry away for nest decoration, etc?

Its not just gormless humans and vehicle tyres that are the problem...

EDIT: Actually, lots of comments/thoughts but I do not think that it would be proper to post them.

That area is not on our forthcoming itinerary, thankfully.

It does rather beggar belief that these highly toxic items were apparently being transported in the same way as so many nuggets of coal!?!

Surely such sensitive and dangerous goods should have individual containment, designed to withstand major impact, let alone a loose bolt falling out of a container?

Someone will have a great many searching questions to answer!! (After the physical searching is over / abandoned).

CJI.

I've got magnets that same size 8mm by 6mm) that I use to fix the flywire to the outside of Gary the Parrots cage, if I drop one on the floor underneath I have enough trouble finding it so luckily they have limited the search area to just  a 1400km length of the Great Northern  Highway.

You can follow the route in this link (highway is labelled 95)  but basically its the equivalent of driving from London to Prague while passing absolutely nothing but scrub, and a couple of salt lakes.

Google Maps says 'Light traffic in this area' - no kidding. Discounting the specialist search vehicles.

NOTICE is Hereby Given

That within the forthcoming unspecified number of days an attempt shall be made here Upon the Hill of Strawberries to re-create the uniquely Australian delicacy known as the Potato Cake*

NOTICE is Hereby Given

That today was the day. A suitably-sized potato was sliced and - because I don’t have a deep-fryer - was softened slightly in the microwave for a few moments.

A standard thick batter was made and the sliced potato duly coated, gently shallow-fried and served with sauce (of course) and pigs-in-blankets (because they were there).

Not quite the Aussie product but certainly adjacent.

It helps if you can use a geiger counter...

Though once they started looking closer to Perth, it may have gone back to the needle in a haystack scenario even with a geigercounter....

The ones I am used to are generally flatter and less appetising looking, well done. (that last bit is  a statement of congratulations, not a comment on the cooking level).

Usual Serving suggestion is wrapped in greasy   butchers paper. Also, for added authenticity  I hope that is chicken salt.
