RMweb Premium 37058 Posted July 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2018 Stu it was an absolute pleasure meeting you on Saturday and seeing Portwey in the flesh. What a cracker of a layout this really is. Take care now and hopefully see yourself on the road again soon. Cheers Anthony

lapford34102
Hi,Will be at Shenfield with Portwey. Not much to report what with grandparent duty over the summer hols, non modelling things and getting Sheepcroft sorted for Loughborough 1st/2nd Sept.Did notice Railtec Transfers had some new stuff of interest such as 3D printed DMU door pushes that are probably worth getting as they aren't easy to mask or repaint.CheersStu

As soon as I get a chance I'll post some pics. I'll look forward to seeing any of your other projects Steve. lapford34102
Hi, Tim and I had a good day at Shenfield. Thanks to everyone who stopped by for a chat or a look. I did slightly get the impression that some were a bit baffled as to what Wessex Trains is/was/where etc, hopefully the potted history helped. Anyhow it seemed to go down quite well and ran well though had a minor glitch 10 mins before opening but all sorted. Thanks to Steve for stepping up and taking his turn particularly when helping the young lad operate for a good part of the afternoon. Obviously a youngster of impeccable taste! Good to meet David again. Forgot to mention about Hornby Pacers so I'll pm you. Actually took a pic of my own layout this time - did have to write myself a note though :-( Also many thanks to those who have commented at the show or on here - appreciated. Dave - to answer your question came away with a Parkside SR PMV and a Farish Warship - mull that over :-) Many thanks Stu
sb67
Here's a few pics of your fantastic layout, real privilege to have a go of it. I really like the DMU's especially the Bristol 143. That's made me want to ressurect an old Hornby Pacer I've have! Got nothing to run it on at the moment though! Steve
whoppit
Having worked trains for wessex (oh to have them back) I must say you have captured the timescale and feel of it perfectly, nice work! Paul
lapford34102
Hi, Firstly apologies to Paul for overlooking his post for 8 months! Thank you, appreciate any comment from those with first hand experience. Having recently experienced a gWr class 166 Westbury-Weymouth I can safely say it just doesn't have the ambience(!) of a Wessex150......... Portwey's off to Derby next weekend http://www.mmrg.org.uk/exhibitions/ if you're around do say hello. Stu
LBRJ
Il try to make sure that I get along to Derby to have a good look at this one ( been a sometime employee of the very much missed WT too back in the day - alongside Paul above )
1722
Spent an enjoyable 30 minutes looking through this thread this morning. Not a modern image man myself, but I love the less is more approach to this model. Just the right amount of details and a lovely eye for colour. Top work.

Andrew P
Hi Stu, Good to meet you and your Wing Man, (sorry, I forgot his name), but great to chat to you both, and inspire me with yet another idea, plus as I said, your article in Traction Mag got the old cogs turning the other day. Best in Show, well yes from me, often less is more, and simplicity wins hands down every time. Thanks and hope to meet up again soon. 8
lapford34102
Firstly thanks to T for his stalwart efforts over the weekend. Thanks to AndrewP for the photos and good to have chat with you and friends on Sunday, plus thanks to everyone who stopped by for a look and a chat. We even got Mr Petty"s attention..... Always realised Wessex Trains was a niche interest but the guy Sun AM who had a good squint at a couple of units then asked if it was a ficticious company rather proved the point! Bonus Sun PM was meeting Paul, the ex Wessex Traincrew, who spent some time with us. It was great, nay educational, to hear his comments, observations and tales (123 passengers on a 153!!!.). "Best in show?" Couldn"t possibly comment Andrew but suspect he might have agreed from what he said. Great weskend and again thanks Stu Edited May 13, 2019 by lapford34102
MRC_Jacob
Incredible layout! Just seen a video on Youtube from a exhibition in Stafford. Very much up my street with the Wessex Trains vibes going on. The Class 150 interests me alot, may I ask where the transfers were done for this. Would love to have a go recreating one myself for my extensive West Fleet. Thanks, look forward to seeing more!! Jacob Redwater TCD

Yes, he's much better at doing two things at once than I am.......! On 02/02/2020 at 18:58, sb67 said: Is that sound as well I heard Yes, Kevin (CoastalDCC-no connection apart from a happy customer) came through with a couple of chips. Not too bad on the 37 and 150 but the ambient noise in the hall was very high and the 153's/143 got washed out so need to have a look at it. Had a word with Mick on Deadman's Lane and how he'd got his 153 set up so will probably mod mine. The youngsters around could hear them a lot better apparently so decided we're all going deaf in our old age! Tim and I had a great weekend and whilst Portwey is always going to be a bit niche in terms of size and subject we were pleased with the interest. It was very busy on the Sat and near enough the same on the Sun. Nice to see a number of familiar faces - they know who they are ! - who'd made the trek up from the other side of the Thames. Love your second photo Paul. Always thought that if you take most of the stock off a layout and it still looks OK then you might have got something right.
