Brake van

Hi All decided to finish painting the Brake Van kit.  I've really enjoyed it and made a lot of mistakes but also learnt a lot - usually from others (thanks David). This is the first time I've used a fiberglass brush to clean a model and I'm glad I listen to advice about marigolds and water!

The roof is not fixed on yet and it needs glazing and internal floor as well as painting fully. To me it certainly helps to be a member of a club and on this site.

Cheers Tim

Hi everyone, I've been working on the Brew House.  I've been planning the interior, especially now I've decided to light it, so I'm working on creating some coppers and Mash tuns. They need at least another coat but I love the colour already. I've also taken a couple of shots of the Brew House which still needs a lot of work.  I've placed the other building next to it for context.

Cheers Tim

A Bridge too far?

Hi all season's greetings.  I have been doing more on the Brew House and have begun a rail bridge which goes across the middle of the brewery.  the idea is that this is a joint single LT/BR line and will have a signal cabin on it. At present the balsa wood strip is just there for show as I've only made the brick abutments - painting them in engineering blue brick colour.

Cheers Tim

More progress with the bridge/ viaduct.  I've laminated some MDF and sanded it off. There will be a London Transport signal cabin on one side. I'd really like to do the full monty and have 4 rails with all the associated equipment boxes.  O gauge chine pots anyone?

Cheers Tim

Coming along Tim, I like your Grain Van build too.

One thing I would suggest with the MDF laminations is that I would always use an odd number stuck together to try and avoid any warping. I apply that to any materials too.

thanks BGman - sorry I can't see a name. I have overlapped different lengths and I an going to support them with columns in addition to the brick buttresses.  A friend also suggested treating the MDF with Shellac and meths to seal it. I bet Brunel didn't have all this!

Hi everyone, a quick update on progress on the bridge. It's quite time consuming doing all the various parts and putting in the rivet detail but I'm nearly there.  I've included some shots of the metals on the bridge.  these will actually sit on I beams rather than on top of the wood.

Cheers Tim

I don't want to be over-pedantic or negative, but the "metals" as you name them, have to support the cross beams, which in turn support the trackbed - whilst there are bridges where the cross beams are visible below the main girders, this is not very typical for the type of bridge you are building - normally the transverse beams are within the height of the main girders, because the deeper the section of the girder, the stiffer it will be to resist the bending loads imposed by the bridge itself, and the things that cross it.  In the configuration you have, the I beams are trying to pull the webs off the girders.
