eastwestdivide
Weird how the windows seem to be way too deep when the sides are all the same colour!
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted July 9, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2018 The frames are .005" deep - half etched .010" n/s. This equals about 3/8" full size.
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 9, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 9, 2018 Weird how the windows seem to be way too deep when the sides are all the same colour! The Manchester Pullman (and Liverpool Pullman) Mk2 stock windows were deeper (vertically) than the standard B2 Mk2 aircon stock. Darius
eastwestdivide
Thanks for the clarification folks. I think I should have been clearer in what I wrote in post 3 above. I should have said "tall" rather than "deep", and I was comparing the apparent height of the windows on the single-colour model sides to their apparent height in a photo of the two-colour real thing, commenting on the optical illusion from the colour schemes. I wasn't casting aspersions on the quality of the model or the modelling. 1

bennyboy
That's a weird coincidence as that interview with Rapido's Jason Shron got me dreaming today about how much it would cost to commission Rapido to make a set of Manchester Pullmans! But which of the liveries are planning on painting it in?

BernardTPM
I converted a Hornby Mk.2 to a Pullman Brake First back in 1977. Basically completely new sides in styrene*. It was around the time they were first refurbished so the windows were tinted instead of having the original blinds and the Blue Pullman style lettering replaced with Rail Alphabet style. * Two layers of 10 thou." clear, with spacers to create the profile, one top layer normal 10 thou."

BernardTPM
Thanks! I'm afraid that was the only one I did. I built it for a friend and as he could only run three coach trains the idea was to do one of each. He already had two of the Triang-Hornby Blue Pullman Parlours in grey blue that it ran with, hence the I built the Brake coach first (and last as it turned out). Somewhere I've still got a notebook where I noted the alterations made around that time, hence the plating and small vent over the toilet window in place of the original large grille. As far as I remember i used chopped up BSL compartment seats with styrene details and tables. There's plenty more choice in that area nowadays. One thing I did learn from this: use decent table supports to keep them all level. Good job the windows were tinted! Are you intending to use the original livery? I think that looks better than the revised version personally. White straight onto pale grey wasn't exactly a good idea! RMweb Premium keefer Posted July 13, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2018 (edited) wasn't there an 'inbetween' livery i.e. rail grey but with 'PULLMAN' slab lettering in blue? EDIT: there was. PULLMAN slab letters in blue and a small Pullman crest between the toilet and next normal window Google came up with the image from p.18 of this PDF of SEMG's Coupé Special Edition No.9 http://www.semgonline.com/coach/coupe/coupe_se09.pdf lots of information on the coaches Edited July 13, 2018 by keefer

These details will be very useful for constructing/detailing the interiors. I will be finishing teh coaches using the "blue" P U L L M A N lettering with the Pullman crests on the rail blue bands. I have printed my own "P U L L M A N" decals and will be using the crests from a Cambridge Custome Transfers sheet. Cheers Darius

PULLMAN slab letters in blue and a small Pullman crest between the toilet and next normal window That was the original livery used from 1966 to the mid-'70s when the silly white on grey in Rail Alphabet replaced it. The lettering was the same style as the original Blue Pullman lettering but in Rail Blue which constrasted well in the light grey.
