RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted December 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 12, 2018 (edited) Aren't we being a bit unfair? There are a few offers and some of the other days' "treats" are potentially useful for parents/grandparents looking for present ideas. The Advent Calendar is clearly not aimed at the serious modellers found on RMWeb but at a more entry level. If seen in isolation rather than being measured against what has gone before, the balance so far seems reasonable. Hroth
When Hornby started doing the Advent Calendar, there was a sprinkling of tasty offers interspersed with the competitions and less obvious filler than we are getting this year (Videos/Xmas Wishlist/Mag article). Todays effort is a pretty sad cracker joke. The problem is that advice at this point is a bit pointless and if you're hoping to win a trainset for a gift, then good luck! However, lets be positive and wish Hornby a Happy Christmas! (and there's another 12 days for them to surprise us all!)
Steamport Southport
It's just that I felt the joke was a bit groanworthy. The best snowman joke is this one. Probably not suitable for a family audience like Hatton's have. The worst job I ever had was as a forensicologist for the United Nations. One time I thought I'd come across the mass grave of a thousand snowmen, but it turns out it was just a field of carrots. Jason
JaymzHatstand
Instagram competition today, follow Hornby and tag a friend in their post to enter the competition. Prize is a Percy and the Mail Train set. Cheers J
Hroth
Instagram? Deary me.... I suppose Hornby is trying to gauge how effective the various social media channels are. Linkedin next?
Hroth
Now. Shall I stay up until midnight??? I must say that I'm glad I didn't Edited December 14, 2018 by Hroth
Steamport Southport
Please tell them to stop with the awful jokes. Not just on the Hornby page, but some stinkers on the other brands as well. Jason
RMweb Premium Nile Posted December 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 14, 2018 Is it my imagination or is the Hornby advent calendar a bit lacking in the special deals this year? I'm sure there are many retailers glad this is the case.
Hroth
15th December: Not so long to go now! But in the meantime, why not read Hornbys blog, "The Engine Shed"! I kid you not....
davidprentice
They could have at least had today's advent calendar (a link to the engine shed blog) at least link to some new content... perhaps even a teaser of some kind for the 2019 announcements, or a look at the year in review, or something! Meant as constructive feedback rather than a moan!
Hroth
16th December: One lucky entrant wins Hornby Collectors Club membership, worth £28, for a year. Just enter your details on the competition page! Get one of those coveted 0-4-0 locos. Sadly it won't be a Peckett or Sentinel, but there you go.... Hroth
18th December: Seeing as how its now past our Christmas delivery deadline, find a local stockist! Or they could just tease us with pictures of locomotives and rolling stock that Hornby have announced over the previous few years and then not produced. Just as useful! An email from Hornby that arrived this evening suggested that as there was one week to Christmas, there were only one week of treats left from the "Hornby Advent Calendar". Treats? I've obviously been looking at the wrong Calendar! Edited December 18, 2018 by Hroth
Hroth
19th December Todays treat is advance knowledge that the 2019 range is to be announced on 7th January! Wow! Its more an Absent Calendar, I'm afraid...
Hroth
20th December: Last few days now! Today the Advent Calendar presents SDJR7F88 building a festive micro-layout. Some good ideas, and actually useful!

Hroth
22nd December: Another Cracker "Joke". And they'd done so well over the past couple of days. HoHoHo. (Nick Hornby? I'd sue)
Hroth
23rd December: After yesterdays "cracker joke", Hornby have gone meta. Todays Advent calendar offering is a factoid about the invention of christmas crackers. (Best Michael Caine impression) Not many people know that!
Hroth
24th December: To wrap things up, in the last Advent calendar window Hornby would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
