That looks fantastic.  How on earth do you make and paint that roof in one evening?!

Thanks Graham. I guess it's just practice - it's not complex, just cutting corrugated sheet to size and sticking it together, and I use acrylic paints so they dry in minutes.

Yep. Totally agree. Lovely shed.

Really needs a Ford Focus inside.

There, I've said it. None of this pussy footing around. Just come out and say it.

I thought your little shed was great - this is even better!

Bigger is always better when it comes to sheds, you can get more rusty junk in them.

I think that Alister has demonstrated that principle admirably well.

What did I do this afternoon, on probably the warmest day of the year so far?

Why, I hid in a nice cool cellar, of course.

Oh, and whilst I was there, I built the baseboard for the diorama.

I started with a basic framework, 6mm ply sides and 19mm ply ends, and added the roadway base:

Then I added the base for the courtyard:

Offcuts of cork were used to form a rough shape for the landscape:

I tried out the buildings to make sure they would fit:

Then, I started adding newspaper and PVA glue to form the structure of the landscape:

This has all been left to dry now.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

I have to say that your rate of progress is phenomenal, Al. If only I could make a start on something and not be distracted almost immediately by something else I might be able to emulate it. It is rather doubtful, though.

Nicely done.

Thanks Mick,

These things happen occasionally, when I have a day or so uninterrupted, and I make what progress I can, but as you will have seen from following this thread, there are long periods when I don't get chance to do anything much at all.

Plus, this idea has really fired my imagination, and I want to see it realised as well as I can.

Cheers,

Al.

As I said above, the base for the shed has now been painted to represent a concrete slab:

I'm probably going to make it dirtier, and with the all-important oil stains where the Land Rover is parked...

In the meantime, I've been beginning to add some signs of life. I built a toolbench and a set of shelves, which are both from the Scale Model Scenery laser-cut range, and then I added a scratchbuilt lathe and pillar drill:

Here's a nice atmospheric shot:
