In fairness,  as much as I am really looking forward to these 92s, they will never displace the 90 as my favourite AC electric loco

Nobody reading this thread cares!

Well, more people care about OO 90s than care about EM or P4 92s it would seem (and comments on that are allowed), given Bachmann have sold a few.

In fact, I was quoting a photo of a load of 90s which means somebody must care.

Also, Accurascale may care that on by layout there are currently 3 Bachmann 90s, I have plans for only 1 of their 92s.

Quality, versus quantity..... (Sorry, couldn't resist!) LOL!

Plus you need 3 90's, two to pull what a 92 can, and one for failures.  Weren't called 'Skodas' back in the day for nothing.....

Main thing is to enjoy your hobby.

Hmmm. If you sell those Class 90s you could buy another AS Class 92! You are quite welcome :)

Or save £50 and get a nice sound fitted 92 instead.

Looks super, but do the models for the current era have GSMR installed......

Pretty lights 😍

Hi,

I wander how Accurascale managed to get all the lamps into the TVM430 displays! The real things are apparently a nightmare so I can imagine what it is like in 4mm scale! 😁

Seriously impressed with the 92, I was thinking about cancelling mine to pay for other things that I'll use more (I can't really justify one on a Southern Region layout!), but decided against it and even upgraded to a sound version!

Wise move, you'll be fine, just need some Peco 3rd Rail!  Other idea is being hauled to Loughborough!  I have gone for a Stobart one - just hope that quantity produced is adequate for demand and not OTT, so they don't get put in the bargain bin like the N gauge ones!

GSMR is fine, mainly.  Odd technical hitches I have herd about but only really an issue on certain routes and from the driving cab. Works for what I use it for!

Ahhhh but there's the issue of operational access ... working 90s can go anywhere under the wires, 92s, those under DB can't operate on the English network at present, so the 90s still win, even with their reliability issues. Skodas > Dysons

When it comes to Top Trump's, the 3rd rail ability of the Dysons must play its part, though. 😀

I don't think they actually use them at all anymore ... DB's 92s use to, in the south east ... but because they are no longer permitted to, they aren't and GBRf's 92s, dont ever seem to get there  ... ironically, DB's 92s cross over those parts on the way to Dollands i gather ... correct me if i am wrong there

Hi,

Ah, but they are banned from 99% of the third rail network, they draw too much current!

Mr Fat Controller of this parish would know for sure, but Class 92's still run Freight Traffic on classic 3rd Rail lines from Dollands Moor to Wembley via Ashford and Tonbridge AFAIK,also i have seen on a couple of occasions singular examples running light Engine through Ashford on HS1 ( at some speed i might add ).

Why is that?

Because the railways are very hypocritical when it comes to Green credentials.

Electrification is at the lowest cost. So the result of locos that can’t use the track, and slights gaps in connections that make through electric running impossible.

in theory a 92 on a freight should be able to go all the way from Dollands Moor to Scotland on Freightliner, but instead 66’s do it.

similar Harwich containers going West should be able to cross London to the GWML except for a 1 mile gap. And as for the lack of an East-West AC connection anywhere between North London and Scotland…

All the above goes someways to explaining why hundreds of EMU vehicles, and soon FLTs 86’s have been scrapped and why things like 87’s and 92’s are in Eastern Europe.

if the Transpeninnes had been electrified 2 decades back, the 87’s would have had a job for sure, and mk5’s a slightly different story.

the list goes on, and off topic
