Popular Post wiggoforgold
An overall short of pretty much the whole layout, looking south towards Plymouth. The track bed of the Princetown branch is on the left. 34 5
MrWolf
Very impressive aerial view. It's inspired me to get my layout bolted back together in fact! 2 2
Nick Gough
There's another model of Yelverton in the June Railway Modeller. That one has the branch still open and includes Princetown. 2
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted May 24, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2022 Excellent colour scheme. Just a few colours, toned down and recurring. Even the Morris is colour-matched. I like the "cut out" top of the back scene too, funny how that does make a difference. 5

brianusa
Good to see an overall picture, Alex. How about a bolt on P/Town branch and the turntable - would look good!😉 Brian.

Behind the curved fascia of the baseboard in front of the up platform building is a substantial girder that another board could be bolted to, and the track bed of the lifted branch is a "proper" track bed, not just cosmetic scenery. :) Alex Edited June 3, 2022 by wiggoforgold 3 1 1
Popular Post wiggoforgold
45xx and Collett stock entering Yelverton with a Plymouth-Launceston passenger service. The loco is Bachman, the coaches Hornby. The picture shows the control panel at the front of the layout. I have found operating from the front and among the audience preferable to operation from behind the layout. Popular Post wiggoforgold
More freight stock for Yelverton. First, a bogie bolster C from a 55 year old Triang model, with new bogies from Cambrian and under frame trussing fromPlastruct L section. The group of three wagons is inspired by a Peter Gray photograph of a similar group of wagons at Bodmin. The Lowfit is a Mainline body an a Parkside under frame converted to a wooden solebar. The RCH open and the 16t mineral are Bachman. At the moment some of them still need couplings and final weathering. Alex 24 5

Popular Post wiggoforgold
Another small prairie has joined the fleet. This one is auto fitted 4575 5572. The basic model is Bachman, with auto fittings from Mainly Trains. I tried a different weathering method with this one, spaying on light coats of Alclad 2 Matt Black and Tan enamels wiped down on the vertical surfaces with a brush dipped in white spirit. Dirt on the underframe and wheels is from Humbrol smoke and earth weathering powders. The rods were painted with a mixture of Mig medium rust and gunmetal. Plates and transfers are from Railtech.
wiggoforgold
Sometimes I am brought to the brink of despair by technology. In my previous post I had intended to say a bit about the computer display on the layout, but my phone deleted the explanation when I was editing the previous post and I didn't notice until after it was posted. The layout shows a sequence of typical trains from the last years of the line, run to a sequence based on the old timetables. I've put the sequence in to a Power Point presentation which is displayed on a computer screen fixed to the front of the layout At the recent Exeter show one of the exhibitors was using a similar presentation and I've borrowed a couple of ideas from that to refine mine. I'm looking forward to Edington (23-24 July) and hope to see a few of you there. Alex

RMweb Premium AdeMoore Posted July 17, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 17, 2022 Great effort that Alex. Way beyond me is it power point? Hope it cools down some what by then! Have a great exhibition I won’t be able to make it unfortunately.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Harlequin Posted July 25, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2022 (edited) Hi Alex, It was great to meet you on Saturday and see Yelverton for real. (I hope I didn't waffle on too much...) Here are some of the photos I took - I'm sure other folk will have much better ones! The next time I'll remember how to take focus stacks with my phone and improve the depth of field! Edited July 25, 2022 by Harlequin
wiggoforgold
Thanks Phil. As I said on Saturday, it's always great to see other people's photos of the layout because it is fascinating to see how they interpret it. Great photos. RMweb Gold Popular Post Harlequin Posted July 25, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2022 Here's one more, taken while some shunting was going on. Popular Post wiggoforgold
Yelverton has reached what I call the “tweaking” stage. It’s largely complete, just needing seats, flower beds and a couple of combined telegraph poles/lamp post on the platforms, and there’s a few more wagons including some milk tanks to build. I met Phil (Harlequin of this parish) at Edington. He manufactures GWR signal box nameplates under the name “The Pattern Shop”, and he produced a new name board for the cabin. The photos show the new name board in place. I’ve started work on a new layout, Lydbrook Dean, set in the Forest of Dean in the early 1960’s. Lots of pannier tanks, 16t minerals and trees. What’s not to like? I’ve started a new thread for it. Alex
wiggoforgold
I forgot to add to my last post: Yelverton will be appearing at the Saltash Model Show on 8-9 October 2022. It will be the only railway exhibit. In this picture, 6400 is seen about to depart from Yelverton with a Tavistock-Plymouth service. Alex
