There was a very small article  - possibly an illustrated letter - in an edition of Model Rail at least 10 years ago, where the writer had modified Hornby "Shortie" Mk3s into Blue Pullman coaches, to compensate for (at that time) the rarity and ridiculous prices for the Tri-ang BP coaches.  I've since heard others recall it and dismiss it as crude and inaccurate, but it seemed like some quite clever, budget-conscious modelling to me.

I’m more impressed with how he makes everything for *Tenshodo* bogies, does the guy just alternate his loco bodies between a few bogies? Are Tenshodo bogies easy to get in Japan? Or is he just loaded? No way would I personally spend £50 on a chassis for a HO/OO Lego Thomas train

they missed a trick by not using the Hornby HST chassis in the power car as well - its easy to make it fit a BP body and it looks more like the bogies of the real thing than the standard Triang power bogie does

A brother to my No.10, perhaps? This is a large scratchbuilt 00 4-6-0T by judith1951-2009. (Using smaller images to save upload space on the post, then I can get more in!) It's a pretty thing. Judith has a couple other scratchbuilt 00 locos as well, but this one caught my eye the most as a freelance design. The others look to be an E4 and an I1. Images linked as always.

 

Next up are these two very nice 00 station buildings by the aptly named mustspendless. (I can relate to that username!) 

 

rocketrailways, which has appeared on here quite a few times if I recall, provides us with this very nice grounded coach that reminds me a bit of the carriage cottage at Holt Station on the NNR (depicted below.)

 

Another returning item maker, this time the incredibly talented clairegilmore75 and her gorgeous scratchbuilt buildings. Considering she has been here multiple times before, she needs no introduction.

Well, I guess some things never change. It's a Hornby D Class with Thomas' face. Yawn.

 

This is a bit more effort though. A Bachmann Crab painted up as James. Numbers and lettering are a bit iffy (being literally paper glued to the bodywork) but the paint itself is actually pretty solid.

Google brings up no clues as to it's origins.

I would suggest it started life as a Triang R659 http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=1141

 

It looks like running plate/steps, smokebox & chimney are similar to that loco.  The 'toolboxes' on the top of the tanks look like they are from the Airfix pug kit, as do the dummy cylinders/crosshead.  The cab front & rear may be Airfix pug as well.  The rest of it looks like card or plasticard tanks/cabsides.  Don't know about the dome, but that may be Triang as well.

 

That is an interesting kitbash, I like it.

I was only just thinking the other day about what if Hornby made a B4 on the 0-4-0 chassis instead of the Holden.

Never gonna happen, probably.  Hornby are not afraid to challenge other manufacturers by duplicating and undercutting their models, so the Dapol B4 wouldn't stop them, but I think it is very unlikely that we will see any new model (as opposed to re-liverys) in 00 from H for some time; they are understandably concentrating their effort on TT120.  A Smokey Joe based B4 would be a rather inferior model, but attractive as a starter set loco!

That first photo is intriguing …

 

Firstly, if the buffers on the wagon behind the loco are at the correct height, how over-tall is the loco?

 

If not, how come the wagons have their buffer beams set so low?!

 

The second photo somehow makes the new loco look like a narrow gauge engine - perhaps 3 foot gauge like the IoM? Maybe it’s the (comparatively) large smokebox front*? 🤔

The loco is massively over scale to fit over the chassis, given in the second picture it's about the size of a Jinty, I don't have a Hornby Jinty in my shop to compare with at the moment, but I do have a Dapol B4, and when compared to a Hornby 0-4-0 it's still tiny, so I guess the buffer height is an issue caused by how massive they made it.

That scratch built 4-6-0t is not so freelance, I think it looks very much like a Cork, Bandon & South Coast B4 tank engine built by Beyer Peacock. 1or 2 lasted till the end of CIE steam. With a strip and repaint it could be a much nicer model.

  Attached a BP drawing and a rather poor photo of my kitbuilt Bandon tank. Hope they are of interest.

That was when they were showing off their new 3D printer.  It might be that it was essentially a "training project" that was picked on by the TV production team as something whacky to fill in a bit of airtime. The oversize issue may be due to some of the printer scaling being a bit "off".  You never know, it might still emerge as a starter set loco to allow Hornby to rest the other body styles for a while.

Very smart engine. I'm always a fan of unusual wheel arrangements, and 4-6-0T is certainly one you don't see much.

This is an interesting one... Triang 0-4-0 chassis, absolutely, steps seem to be taken from one of the "Industrial tank" models (the USA outline 0-4-0 Triang did).

 

 

The cylinders are also quite clearly taken from a Kitmaster Pug, crosshead slidebars lengthened to fit the steps over them.

 

 

Unsure if this gives any pointers on the origins, but theres a few pointers as to components used on the model. Methinks it's a scratchbuild.
